Introduced in 1970, the second generation Firebird was only
available as a fastback coupe. Designed in tandem with the
Chevrolet Camaro, the Firebird was a popular halo car for the
Pontiac range. There were updates and changes nearly every year of
production and a variety of engines ranging from Buick V6 to a
455cid V8 to a 4.9L turbocharged V8. While performance was choke by
emissions standards of the days, the top end Pontiacs did their
best to offer as much performance as possible at an affordable
price.
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this unique custom Firebird
Trans Am replica for your consideration. Starting off as a super
solid 1981 Firebird in Sunburst Yellow, this car has been fully
converted to a Trans Am. Part of the changes include the addition
of 1978 style front bumper, lights, and facia. The body has been
completely restored to professional standards and was repainted
with premium quality paint. In addition to the cosmetic
restoration, the mechanicals have been completely rebuilt. The
brakes, engine, transmission, and suspension have been thoroughly
gone through. The engine is a 6.6l 4bbl V8 that has been rebuilt
and features Edelbrock intake and valve covers. There has been some
chrome dress up kits in the engine bay. Its mated to a desirable HD
200R4 OD automatic transmission. New Trans-Am suspension,
Positraction rear axle, HD radiator, Flowmaster exhaust, power
steering, and disc brakes are just many of the mechanical upgrades.
The car also features Sport mirrors, Console B&M floor shifter,
Kenwood stereo MDX, rear spoiler, hood mounted Firebird decals,
aftermarket gauges, Shaker hood, T/A decals, side moulding, Tilt
wheel, Trans Am interior and dashboard. The car also has new
weather stripping, trim, and sill plates. The car rides on newer
Cooper Cobra 15in tires on classic industries rally rims.
The interior and exterior of this vehicle are in excellent
condition, the restoration was very thorough and the fit and finish
is excellent. While these Firdbirds are far from the most
collectable, the value of these vehicles are rising everyday. This
example is one of the nicest we've seen in a long time and will
definitely be a collectors item in the near future.
