Vehicle Description
History
The Volkswagen Beetle, officially the Volkswagen Type 1, and in
parts of the English-speaking world the Bug, is a two-door,
five-passenger, rear-engine economy car that was manufactured and
marketed by German automaker Volkswagen (VW) from 1938 until
2003.
The originating concept behind the first Volkswagen, the company,
and its name, is the notion of a people's car, a car affordable and
practical enough for common people to own. Hence the name, which is
literally "people's car" in German.
Why It Is Special
This Beetle sports functioning semaphores and a rear- split
window.
Mechanical Specs
The original 25 hp Beetle was designed for a top speed around 62
mph, which would be a viable speed on the Reichsautobahn system. In
1954, Volkswagen added 2 mm to the cylinder bore, increasing the
displacement from 1,131 cc to 1,192 cc. This increased power from
to 36 hp and improved the engine's free revving abilities without
compromising torque at lower engine speeds.
But, the engine in our VW has been rebuilt and has been modified
with aftermarket parts including performance air cleaner, ignition,
coil, headers, and exhaust system. This Bug flies.
Interior
The bucket seats and rear seats are covered in black, grey, and red
tweed pattern and look great. It is a manual transmission with its
long black VW shifter. Everything has been replaced and restored
inside and looks as good as the outside.
Exterior
In 1955, the separate brake lights were discontinued and were
combined into a new larger tail light housing. The traditional VW
semaphore turn signals were replaced by conventional flashing
directional indicator lamps for North America.
The paint shines like new and all the body lines are great. It
rides on red painted wheels with wide tires and wheels in the back
giving it a great stance. The chrome is also great from the bumpers
to the hubcaps.
