There’s no question that the 40th Anniversary Ruby Red paint is drop-dead gorgeous, giving the Corvette a sophisticated look that works quite well with its performance credentials. In fact, it worked so well that GM virtually duplicated the look with the C5 50th Anniversary models a decade later. It sure is pretty! There might be a mark or two on the nose where some road debris nicked it, but you’re going to have to look this car over pretty carefully to find any real signs of use. It has always been stored indoors and the most recent owner was so fussy about it that he didn’t want to let it outside in the winter to drive between his garage and a trailer waiting to bring it to our facility! That’s dedication!
Inside, same story: beautifully preserved, fully functional, and ready to enjoy. Those Ruby Red seats are as comfortable as they look and offer a glimpse into the high-tech vibe that defined the C4 ‘Vettes. Most Corvettes were loaded with features, but this one also includes goodies like electronic A/C, a Bose AM/FM/CD/cassette stereo system, power driver’s seat, blue tinted roof panel, and all the standard stuff like power windows, locks, and mirrors, cruise control, a tilt wheel, rear defroster, and fog lights. Everything works properly, including cold A/C and a stereo that still sounds fantastic, making this Corvette an excellent choice when you have a long way to go and a short time to get there. The hatch opens, which makes access to the trunk area much easier, and you’ll find that if you pack smart, it’ll carry quite a bit of gear. Time for a road trip!
The heart of the C4 was the 350 cubic inch LT1, which in 1993 was rated at a rather impressive 300 horsepower. Today it may not seem like a lot, but it was second only to the ZR1 and Viper in 1993, and remains one of the most reliable and durable V8s ever built. There’s huge torque at any speed, so when you mash the throttle, the Corvette just leaps forward and it effortlessly gobbles up highway at triple-digit speeds. LT1s were notoriously easy to upgrade and there are many that have various bolt-ons and performance-enhancers, but this one remains totally stock—just the way you want one if you’re worried about reliability and condition. No racing, no abuse, just factory equipment and proper maintenance. With the low mileage, it has never needed more than fluid changes, and we believe it’s still running its original belts and hoses, so perhaps those could be changed out if you’re planning a lot of driving. Or not, because it seems just fine and exhibits no outward signs of distress. Turn the key and it fires instantly and idles smoothly thanks to the wonders of factory fuel injection and with the tall overdrive, it will pull down more than 20 MPG on the highway. Not many cars that can do so many things as well as this Corvette.
The 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission is always a quick downshift away from more performance, and when you combine the tall overdrive with 2.59 gears out back, this car just loafs along at highway speeds. How does 1200 RPM at 60 MPH sound? This car carries the FX3 suspension, which is a nice balance between ride quality and grip, with later C4s such as this showing marked improvements in comfort and noise—forget what you’ve heard, get in and hit the road because this is a very comfortable car for just about anyone. The exhaust system is mellow but with a nice V8 bark at full throttle and Corvette brakes are legendary for being powerful enough for the track. The chassis is clean and obviously has never seen winter, though it’s not quite as detailed as the rest of the car. It rides, drives, and handles beautifully with exactly zero issues and with recent 255/40/17 front and 275/40/17 rear Kumho performance radials, it’s ready to rock.
Documented with the original window sticker, manuals, and service receipts, this is a very affordable Corvette with an awesome pedigree. C4s will never get less expensive, so perhaps now is the time to grab one that will remain at the top of collectors’ wish lists for years to come. Call now!
