Vehicle Description
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL
Pagoda. Presented in the classic combination of black over cognac,
the car shows to a nice driver standard throughout. Both tops in
excellent condition. Air conditioning. Automatic. This car has been
in Georgia since at least 1992 and with the current owner since
1998. Originally 291 Dark Olive with an 040 Black hard top, the car
was repainted some years ago in all black. Nice paint, body, chrome
and glass. Original fenders.
Interior shows well with seats, dash, steering wheel, wood trim,
door panels, carpet and headliner all in good condition. All gauges
and climate control sliders (including backlights) are working as
they should. Only deviation from stock is an aftermarket stereo,
but by '71 the dash opening for the stereo was standardized so a
Becker Europa can be refitted without modification.
The 2.8 liter overhead cam six has an unstamped case, which means
it was a factory replacement engine (not a donor from another car).
The Bosch mechanical fuel injection system on European cars from
this era can be finicky, but this car is well-tuned, starts easily
both hot and cold, and pulls strong throughout the rev range at all
temperatures. Runs and drives well and the automatic transmission
shifts just as it should. Maintained by the same local Mercedes
specialist for the last 20 years.
Easily among the best looking of Paul Bracq's designs, the W113
Pagoda exudes a timeless, understated elegance and this example
would be welcomed by any enthusiast. For more information about
