For Sale: 1953 Ford Sunliner in Culpeper, Virginia

Vehicle Description

FOR SALE BY OWNER

1953 Ford Crestline Sunliner Convertible

HISTORY: In 1953 Ford provided the pace car for the Indianapolis 500 and it was driven by William Clay Ford, accompanied by multiple Indy 500 winner Wilbur Shaw. At the post-race banquet, the race winner Bill Vukovich was awarded a Pace Car replica and the original Pace Car went to the Henry Ford Museum. There were 2,001 Pace Cars built, supposedly one for each Ford dealer at that time.

This special limited edition * 1953 Ford Crestline Sunliner Convertible, although not one of the original replica pace cars built, has the same special trim identified by the 'Coronado' Continental trunk kit. It also features the 1953 special 50th Anniversary Horn Plate. * It is not known exactly how many of these special edition models replicating the unique 1953 pace car trim still exist but it is a very limited number.

VEHICLE SPECIFICS: Full frame off restoration was completed in March of 2005. Everything at the time was replaced with new or reconditioned parts and is stock except for the engine, transmission and radio. The car has been kept in very good condition and I am only the third owner purchasing it in 2011. It is truly an eye catcher in brilliant red with black and white interior and black top. The interior is in good condition. The power top is in excellent condition and has an accompanying boot. All gauges work including the clock and cigarette lighter socket (used only for my GPS). It also has a Dashboard Prism Traffic Light Viewer a rare unique option back in the day. The undercarriage is clean and was powder coated when restored.

The stock Flat-head V8 engine was replaced with a 302 ci V8 and the manual transmission was replaced with a C4 Ford-O-Matic both when restored. It has duel exhausts, power breaks and wide white wall tires with plenty of tread. The engine is detailed with Drake 302 valve covers and has the big black vintage air filter. All chrome and glass are in excellent condition. The 10 gal. gas tank has been replaced with a 15 gal tank. The car runs great and has won numerous awards at local shows including “Best Ford”. It was featured in the “Red Hats” “Classy Classics” 2016 calendar and is also scheduled to appear in a 2018 travel video.

Included is a new Ultimate Shield Car Cover with cable and lock set as well as 4 new full weather wheel covers for overnight cruises.

If you are looking for a turn-key car that you can immediately take to shows and / or just cruise around in, this is the vehicle for you. You won’t find one like this to compare as it is truly a unique hard to find vehicle. A rare find that will attract everyone’s attention.
