MotoeXotica Classic Cars is proud to present this 1999 Panoz Aluminum Intensive Vehicle (AIV) Roadster. It is one of 176 examples made between 1996 and 1999 in Braselton, Georgia. Dressed in silver paint replete with a World War II Air Force fighter plane motif, complete with machine guns, virtual rivets and a blonde starlet astride a bomb. The airbrush work is phenomenal and one of a kind! This car's paint and trim are in excellent condition. The car's windshield is clear and intact while the car's lights, including its separate brake lights and turn signals, are in fantastic order. The car is complete with factory side curtains, soft top and bows. The car's bodywork is straight and solid, the engine bay is tidy, the cargo area is clean and the Panoz rides on BFG Goodrich radials, 245/40ZR18 in front and 295/35ZR18 in rear. Each tire surrounds a BBS 10-spoke wheels, a special factory installed option. The Panoz AIV has four-wheel independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes (10-inch vented single piston in front and 13-inch vented twin-piston in back). Under the hood is a Ford 4.6L DOHC 32-valve modular V-8 engine breathing via dual exhausts that puts out 305 horsepower and 300 pounds-feet of torque. The engine has Ford Motorsport ceramic coated stainless steel headers with independent 1 5/8" primary tubes. These tubes increase flow and lean the air/fuel mixture to 13:1, which adds eight horsepower. There is a Steeda under-driven crank pulley with a SFI racing-approved vibration dampener. The water pump and alternator pulleys are slightly oversized. These changes net another eight horsepower. The engine is mated to a Borg-Warner T45 five-speed manual transmission with an 8.8-inch Ford rear end complete with Traction-Lok limited slip. The stock rear end was 3.27:1 but a previous owner changed it to 3.73:1, which reportedly blends well with the engine's high revving nature. The previous owner removed the car's air-conditioning system, which shed 35 pounds of weight, improved vehicle balance and deleted the radiator shroud, which permits better engine cooling and makes it simpler to perform basic maintenance. Inside, the car has a carbon fiber and drilled aluminum interior, a special factory-installed option. The car's black buckets seats are in overall great condition, as is the matching black carpet. A three-spoke flat-bottomed Nardi steering wheel faces the driver and looks great. The inner door panels and instrument panel echo the rest of the interior's theme and look great. The instruments are center-mounted and the reversible gauge faces (black figures on white backgrounds then white figures on black backgrounds after the sun sets). The center console and shifter look great. An Alpine AM/FM stereo with CD player rounds out the interior. Starting in 1994, Panoz developed an aluminum chassis for the Roadster. This new chassis would both reduce assembly time (yet 350 man-hours were still put into each copy) and reduce weight improving performance. In 1996, a new prototype was unveiled, which differed substantially from the original car. It had an extruded aluminum space frame with a central backbone. Special adhesives were used to attach the frame and body.Equally important, an entirely new drive train was used, courtesy of the 1996Mustang SVT Cobra -an all-aluminum,V-8 DOHC 32-valve motor. Consequently, the new Roadster was at approximately 70 percent aluminumand was dubbed anAluminumIntensiveVehicle, or theAIV Roadster. The new engine produced 305 horsepower and 300 foot-pounds of torque. Combined with the lighter chassis, this increased the car's power-to-weight ratio significantly. The last year the AIV Roadster was made was 1999, when 10 were modified with special paint, supercharged and signed to create the Signature Edition 2000 Panoz AIV Roadster. Total production of the AIV consisted of six prototypes and 176 production models sold to the public. So, if you want a lightweight true roadster that is unique and will turn heads and generate conversation, stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars and check it out. Competition to this Panoz in 1999 included Chevrolet's Corvette Convertible, Ford's Mustang Convertible, Honda's S2000 Convertible, Mazda's Miata, Nissan's 300ZX Convertible, Plymouth's Prowler and Porsche 911 Cabriolet and Toyota's MR2 Convertible.
