Vehicle Description
In a perfect world, we could all enjoy unabashedly vintage toys
without fear of reliability issues, cost or some freak accident
ruining a prized possession. Unfortunately, that's not reality, and
most classics integrate a fair amount of late-model hardware to
increase both safety and reliability. Take this handsome 3100, for
example. Wrapping tasteful aesthetics around a fresh TCI chassis, a
fuel-injected stroker motor and a trusty 700R4, this all-American
Chevy is a great driver that mixes hot performance with proven
style. And if you're looking for a timeless ride with a bit of
muscle car flare, it's your ticket to endless fun!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Fully sorted and ready to roll, this super cool Chevy is the
beneficiary of a 3-year, frame-off restoration. Under the truck's
sophisticated Charcoal and Metallic Silver 2-stage, a fully
stripped fuselage incorporates solid replacement panels that, for
the most part, were sourced from LMC Truck. Those panels feature
better-than-factory alignment and, when opened and closed, sound
solid and function exceptionally well. And that body's combination
of excellent reflections and Kansas-flat surfaces suggest many
labor-intensive hours were spent exacting top-notch finish
work.
While the basic shape of the Advanced Design Series is certainly
appealing, first-rate detailing is what makes this pickup really
pop. At the front of the truck, a polished bumper guards a polished
grille, which centers small parking lamps between a broad
"CHEVROLET" script and modern headlights. That script leads a long
hood, which fronts stainless wipers that clear a stainless-trimmed
5-window cab. Beneath those wipers, a simplistic profile reflects
fresh emblems and correct door handles in a small driver's mirror.
Behind those handles, a spectacular wood bed, sourced from Bed
Wood, hides a relocated fuel filler under polished skid strips. And
behind that filler, a second polished bumper frames a "CHEVROLET"
branded tailgate, leather-sleeved chains and Polished Blue Dot
Taillights.
ENGINE
Pop the hood and you'll find 383 cubic inches of GM Performance
Parts ZZ383 that's been polished, rebuilt and fitted with FAST
EZ-EFI 2.0 fuel injection. That self-tuning throttle body gets
aired by a Cadillac-style filter, which rides opposite a high-rise
Chevrolet intake. At the perimeter of that intake, painted
center-bolt valve covers hang polished bowtie breathers over
monochromatic block hugger headers. Behind those breathers, a
traditional points distributor shoots spark through loomed
Chevrolet plug wires. At the front of those looms, billet
serpentine components spin a polished alternator, a polished AC
compressor, a Stewart water pump and Detroit Speed power steering.
And at the front of those ancillaries, a beefy radiator pairs a
polished cap and a polished expansion tank with a giant, electric
puller fan. Despite being a thoroughly massaged piece, the Fire
Engine Red mill looks right at home in the truck's body-matched
engine compartment. And details like trick dipsticks, urethane
motor mounts, braided fluid lines and a quality Lokar throttle
linkage mix first-rate looks with first-rate functionality.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Slide under this rig and you'll find a fresh undercarriage that's
founded on a choice Total Cost Involved chassis. At the front of
those Charcoal bones, a trusty Mustang II suspension balances
2-inch drop spindles and modern coil-over-shocks behind an upgraded
sway bar and power rack-and-pinion steering. Opposite that clip, a
9-inch Ford axle spins a posi-traction differential around big,
3.73 gears. That pumpkin twists 31-spline shafts thanks to a
tweaked 700R4 4-speed. That momentum is countered by an 8-inch
brake booster, which charges stainless lines to clamp four calipers
around 11-inch, vented discs. The aforementioned headers dump spent
gases in to painted pipes, which employ dual-chamber Flowmaster
mufflers. The floors wear quality undercoating, which looks great
against a red powertrain and Metallic Silver drivetrain components.
And at the corners of those pans, custom-ordered Artilleries,
sourced from The Wheel Smith, spin 215/65R17 Falken Ziex in front
of 255/55R18 Falken Ziex tires.
INTERIOR
In the '50s, trucks were all about comfort and utility - not DVDs,
wireless and navigation systems. That's why it's so refreshing to
hop in the cab of this purposeful but nicely appointed 3100. The
star of the show is a red leather bench that definitely ups the
style quotient. Below that seat, fade-free carpet rides tight under
billet foot pedals, color-keyed floor mats and stainless door
sills. Above that carpet, ornate door panels found small armrests
and traditional chrome handles beneath polished window frames. At
the front of the cockpit, a stylish dash hides reliable Painless
Wiring behind color-matched Classic Instruments telemetry. Vintage
Air SureFit air conditioning hides in the glovebox, next to the
truck's FAST fuel injection controller. And the driver feels the
road through a polished and half-wrapped steering wheel that laps a
polished and tilting column.
