Vehicle Description
Well-equipped and featuring a great look that skillfully splits the
difference between stock and custom, this 1966 Ford Mustang is one
rare find that could easily pull double duty as a worthy competitor
on the local show circuit while faithfully serving as a daily
driver. Better still, it comes complete with build receipts and
maintenance records to document both its impressive array of
upgrades and the exacting care it's received.
Clad in a two-tone paint scheme featuring colors borrowed from
Ford's F-150 pickup - Gem Green Metallic on its body with Argent on
its scooped hood - this Pony has benefitted from planning that
leaves it very street-ready and capable with a low-slung look, as
it's 2" below stock in front and 1" below in back. The verdant
shade is a great choice for a vintage Mustang like this, as it's
only a stone's throw from the highland green Ford offered during
this period and carries an impressive shine. This '66's vitality is
amplified by chrome trim and bright work that's looking its best,
showing little evidence of exposure to the elements, as well as
front and back bumpers bearing very clean chrome and sitting level.
In back, you'll see another distinct Mustang feature that's also in
good order - the pair of chrome dual exhaust tips that peer out
just the right distance from the rear valance.
Featuring black vinyl and cloth upholstery that's showing little to
no wear, the interior is a great mix of stock and aftermarket
components. A pair of very detailed and comfortable TMI bucket
seats sit up front, and a similarly ornate bench seat resides in
back to replace their stock counterparts, with the buckets
featuring heavy bolsters to provide improved support while
cornering. Just below the seating, a layer of Dynamat is just below
the new black carpeting, a welcome feature that serves to minimize
both road noise and radiant heat. The doors have been refurbished
with fresh TMI panels and stainless steel handles. A similarly new
custom Mustang steering wheel beckons you to grab hold and get out
on the road, while just a little farther back, a column-mounted
rally pack sits just in front of the restored dash area that's
sporting a full assortment of analog gauges with green
illumination, and a new dash pad. In the trunk area in back, a TMI
kit adds a great finished appearance, with its four custom walls
surrounding a floor that's lined with looped carpeting.
A 289 cubic inch V8 sits underneath the argent hood. It's hardly an
accident that there are so many 289s on the road, as their
durability is well-documented and this one, bored .30 over and
carrying an Edelbrock Performer cam to give it some added steam, is
in great form, starting right up and offering just the spirited
quickness you'd want in a performance-centric classic like this
one, while sounding very impressive as it exhales out the JBA
exhaust and headers. Further adding to the outstanding
streetability of this vintage Mustang, that small block is bolted
to a T-5 5 speed overdrive transmission for low-RPMs on the
highway, and a Holley Sniper EFI system sits in place of the
original carburetor for greatly enhanced all-weather reliability.
This very well-appointed Ford icon sits on a set of 17" Scott Drake
alloy wheels outfitted with BF Goodrich G-Force radials.
