Vehicle Description
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280
SEL. Finished in Black over Cognac leather interior, it's a
timeless combination that exudes understated elegance. This example
has always been meticulously cared for and it shows. One repaint in
the correct color to a very nice standard; body is straight and
solid and the undercarriage is in excellent, rust-free original
condition. New Uniroyal whitewalls on factory steel wheels with
hubcaps. Mileage, as just over 45k, is believed to be original.
Current owner purchased the car a few years ago out of an estate in
California from the long-term previous owner.
Interior is completely original and very well preserved, aside from
a few small tears in the front seat leather (which is all
original). Excellent door panels, headliner, carpets, dash and
wood. All climate control sliders (and illumination - see photos)
are working properly. Cold A/C. Original Becker Europa works as it
should, including the lights.
Exceptionally smooth and well-tuned overhead cam 2.8 liter inline
six with Bosch mechanical fuel injection. Starts effortlessly both
cold and hot, runs strong with no hesitation or flat spots
throughout the rev range. Four-speed automatic transmission shifts
as it should. All service is up to date and the car has no known
needs - A/C was recently overhauled with new compressor, hoses,
receiver-drier and expansion valve. Recent Bilsteins, tie rods,
center link, brake work.
Owners and admirers of the W108 know it to be superbly engineered,
a refreshing reminder of the days when Mercedes-Benz built cars to
a standard, not a price. Books, tools and records included with the
sale. For more information about this 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL for
