History:
Only 355 two-seater BN7’s were produced during their brief run from early-1961 to mid-1962. These BN7’s featured a new, more powerful 3-SU-carb engine mated to a 4-speed transmission with overdrive. As noted in BMI Heritage Trust Certificate, on 12 October 1961, this BN7 was shipped to A. Brüggemann und Co. G.M.B.H. in Düsseldorf, Germany, making this one of just 5 BN7’s that were non-U.S. bound exports (316 were exported to the United States). It was later transported to the United States where its ownership is traced.
Condition:
From 2004 to 2006, it was completely restored by Austin-Healey expert, Tom Kovacs of Fourintune in Wisconsin. Now in its original colors of Colorado Red with black interior. Having had limited use since, but with regular service done, it is still in top condition. Ready to drive or show. It has an excellent file of restoration receipts, photos, Heritage Certificate and more. One of the finest examples of the rare BN7’s.
Of Note:
The BN7 two-seater, three carburetor Healey 3000 was the last of the true roadsters – a two-seat roadster with small windscreen and no vent windows. When the top is down it is below the body line so one has a true roadster. Equipped with side curtains and a low bow top for when the top is up. This was the last of the true lightweight roadsters. It had the best appearance and power to weight configuration with the 3-liter 6-cylinder 3 carburetor engine. The later Healey’s were larger and heavier with 2+2 seating, and with bulky convertible tops and roll-up windows. They were a more luxurious touring cabriolet. This is a true roadster.
