Porsche had two goals with the 964 Carrera RS: Remove weight and
add power. By shaving 350 pounds over a stock 964 and bumping up
the power to 260 horsepower, Porsche introduced a limited edition
964 in 1992 that was worthy of the Carrera RS name. With a
single-mass flywheel, twin plug engine, racing bucket seats and a
stripped out interior, not only did it perform far better than a
stock 964, but provided the driver with a more direct physical
connection to the driving experience.
This Carrera RS, special ordered in Midnight Metallic Blue, was
first purchased by Werner Wenger at AMAG Bern in Switzerland. As
meticulous as they come, Wegner made sure that the RS was cared for
dearly. Barely driven and serviced regularly, the 964 would see
less than 11,000 miles over the next 13 years before moving on to
its next owner, Marcel Koebeli, also a Switzerland native. He would
follow in the footsteps of Wenger and have the car cared for in a
similar fashion, ensuring that it would receive its annual
maintenance and was driven sparingly. Marcel would barely add any
miles during his ownership which spanned almost an entire decade,
adding less than 2,200 miles to the Carrera. The car would then be
imported to the United States on August 11th, 2017 by Dave McCart,
two and a half decades after its time in Switzerland.
When the 964 arrived at Canepa, it was very apparent that the car
had been extraordinarily cared for, now showing 14,018 original
miles. The dark Midnight Blue metallic looked as though it was new
and is all original. The interior showed no signs of wear and would
impress any 964 experts. The twin plug 3.6-liter engine fired up
with no hesitation and idled just like how it would have when it
left the factory. This 964 Carrera RS, with its rare color
combination and limited production run, will be the perfect
addition to any RS collection or to a garage of cars that enjoy
being driven with precision and passion.
About the Carrera RS
The famous moniker "Carrera RS", reserved only for lightweight
factory cars, found itself united with Porsche's 964 for the very
first time in 1992. Pulling from Porsche's long lineage of
lightweight cars with improved performance, the new Carrera RS
found a host of features that embodied the original RS. Power was
increased to 260 horsepower by tuning and adding a twin plug
ignition system, and a single-mass flywheel was added for increased
response from the engine. Stripped of power windows, sound
deadening, power seats and the stereo, along with thinner side and
rear window glass reduced weight. Magnesium wheels on all four
corners saved 22 pounds alone with an aluminum hood shaving weight
down at the same time, and the chassis was welded by hand at the
seams to increase rigidity. When said and done, the Carrera RS
would not only provide a more direct and visceral driving
experience to the driver, but would save more than 350 pounds over
a stock 964.
