Chevrolet introduced the Camaro during the summer of 1966 as its
response to the popular Ford Mustang, reaching showrooms only a few
months later for the 1967 model year. Built on the F-body platform,
the Camaro was made available as a coupe or convertible with a
choice of seven distinct powertrain options. In keeping with the
theme of personal customization, these attractive vehicles could be
ordered in standard, Super Sport and Rally Sport trim. While the
Rally Sport (RS) package amounted to nothing more than appearance
items, the Super Sport (SS) option offered tangible performance
benefits with larger engine options and numerous chassis upgrades
for improved handling, making them the most desirable
representatives of this iconic muscle car.
The Motorcar Offered
Built in Los Angeles, California during 1967, this exquisite
example has been restored to the highest standard with several
desirable modifications to enhance its visual appearance and over
the road performance. Although the original livery of Butternut
Yellow over Black remains, under the hood is a 454 cid V-8 that has
covered less than 1500 miles since the restoration. With 2-inch
headers and Flow Master Mufflers, this beast emits a powerful
burble from the exhaust that is sure to attract attention. The Big
Block motor is mated to a Turbo 400 automatic transmission and a
12-bolt Posi-traction rear axle with 3.73 gears. Unlike the
standard trim that it once wore, SS badges and Rally wheels have
been added to provide notice of the potency that lurks under the
hood. Equipped with power steering, power brakes, power convertible
top, custom bucket seats, and a remote side mirror, this is a fully
optioned vehicle that is available at a fraction of the cost of the
real thing.
Estimate: $38,000-41,000
