Vehicle Description
There are a few big bonuses that come with this 1973 Chevrolet
Camaro Z/28. One, it's a real-deal Z/28, which was perhaps the
hottest car on the road in 1973. Two, it's also an upscale LT,
which makes it rather rare. And finally, it's loaded with options
including factory A/C.
OK, it's not a show car, but you will not be able to keep a low
profile in this Camaro. The paint job was done a while ago and
looks good going down the road, but it's not going to stand up to
the rigors of show car judging, so just go ahead and have some fun
instead. Bright red is never the wrong choice on an F-body and with
black Z/28 stripes running along the bodywork, well, it's
definitely got the right look. All the proper Z/28 styling cues are
there, including the ducktail spoiler and emblems. You could
probably give it a buff to wake it up a bit, and only a few minor
issues are visible, so a little TLC will go a long way. Door fit is
good, the hood sits flush, and even the three-piece spoiler out
back fits well, which is sometimes hard to do. Bright chrome
bumpers look great against the red bodywork and you'll note that
nobody tried to convert this to an RS model with the open grille, a
questionable upgrade that never looks quite right anyway.
When you look inside, you'll find a mostly original interior that's
in very good condition considering it just celebrated its 45th
birthday. Fortunately, someone has taken very good care of this
Camaro, so the black seats still look good and are comfortable
enough for long drives. The dash is in good shape, the carpets
aren't worn, and you won't have to worry about the back seat, which
still looks great. The door panels are probably original and show a
bit of wear and there are speakers installed in the map pockets,
but it all has a uniform look that works. It's got the wrap-around
dash with a surprisingly nice woodgrained applique and all the
gauges show clear markings and lenses, with an aftermarket Sunpro
oil pressure gauge for good measure. As I mentioned with the
speakers, there's an AM/FM/cassette stereo that almost looks OEM as
well as a set of 6x9 speakers on the rear package shelf. Options
include factory A/C, a tilt steering column, and a center console
with a Hurst Dual Gate shifter.
Those mechanicals include a 350 cubic inch V8 that looks quite
fresh sitting under the hood It's mostly stock, including a
Rochester 4-barrel carburetor, factory manifolds, and a modest cam,
and it sure runs well! A set of finned valve covers and bright
Chevy Orange paint make the engine bay look special and aside from
the chrome air cleaner, it hasn't been excessively modified, which
is always nice to see on a Camaro. It's linked to a bulletproof
TH400 3-speed automatic transmission and a 10-bolt rear end, so
breakage isn't something you'll have to worry about. There's a
recent dual exhaust system and the chassis shows off a lifetime in
a warm climate with ultra-clean floors that aren't hidden under
rustproofing compound. It's got the right stance, especially with
those charcoal gray SS wheels and 235/60/15 BFG radials.
The Camaro has always represented flashy V8 fun, and this one
delivers. Add in a little time and effort and you'll have an A-list
muscle car that you can really be proud of. Call today!
