Phish Volkswagen Convertible: a must-have for Phans of the Band and Fans of VWs

Is it a rare work of art or a wonderful car? You be the judge!

This spectacular one-off Volkswagen convertible "Magna Bug" was custom-made by the HippieShop, with the album cover of Phish's Rift artwork recreated on its hood by the renowned air-brush painter Javier Soto. The glovebox of this 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle convertible bears the signatures of the 4 Phish band members! Whether you want to have a one-of-a-kind tribute to this world-renowned band or simply have one of the most iconic convertibles made, this is your one and only opportunity.

The car:

  • A restored 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle convertible
  • 4-cylinder air cooled, fuel-injected engine
  • 4-speed transmission
  • Very nice interior
  • Very nice convertible top

And the art:

  • Air-brush reproduction of album cover of Rift, Phish’s 4th studio album, done by painter Javier Soto;
  • Signatures on the glovebox of the Phish band members:
    • Trey Anastasio
    • Jon Fishman
    • Mike Gordon
    • Page McConnell

For those who like to decode cars, the VIN is 1592037413, for those who like to jam, bring along your Phish CD.

This is a terrific driving and unique work of art that can’t be replicated; and, if you are a fan of Phish, you will be the envy of every other Phan.

Great to Look at; Great to Drive!

  • Paint and Chrome

The Blue re-paint is in excellent condition as are the airbrush graphics by Javier Soto reproducing the cover of the Phish album Rift designed by David Welker. The album cover of Rift was listed by Relix magazine as one of the most iconic covers of all time—now reproduced on this Volkswagen’s front hood!

The chrome is in very good condition, making this mobile artwork even more impressive.

The underside of this unibody car appears largely free of rust other than some normal deterioration including the ends of the stiffening rails.

  • Interior

The upholstery is all in very good condition, with one virtually unnoticeable repair on the passenger bucket seat. From the door panels to the headliner, much of the interior looks like it was newly replaced.

The black convertible top operates properly and its glass rear window has an electric defroster/defogger. The fabric on the exterior of the top is in very good condition although there is a slight tear on the left rear. The headliner is generally clean with some evidence that the boot cover wasn’t always used when the top was down.

  • Engine

Volkswagen’s 1600cc 4 cylinder engine runs and drives like a new one. The engine has fuel injection and an overhead cam. It starts right up and has plenty of power to make this a car that can be utilized on today’s highways and byways as easily as it can be driven around town.

  • Transmission

The 4-speed manual synchromesh transmission shifts smoothly as one would expect in Volkswagen’s legendary fun convertible, allowing both up and down shifts with equal ease.

  • Tires, Brakes, and Monitoring Systems

The Classic radial tires mounted on chrome wheels complete the look that the Beetle convertible is famous for, and the 165/80R15 tires appear to have most of their tread remaining.

The dual-circuit drum brakes bring the car to a rapid and safe stop.

The radio is a Pioneer AM/FM/CD unit on which you can listen to your favorite Phish album or, depending on you preferences, Fox News.

All of the engine/systems monitoring gauges/lights (temperature, fuel, amp and oil pressure) appear to work properly; the horn is not working—probably because the car attracts enough attention by itself!

A Work of Art that you will Enjoy Driving!!

If you are, or encounter, Phish Phans, this VW will immediately be the subject of attention. The unique art work, the band’s four signatures on the dash, and the bumper sticker will forge an immediate bond—if not generate envy--with Phans.

If you are a VW convertible fan, a top-down, open-air drive will exhilarate you as it brings back memories of why these cars were so loved by everyone who got behind the wheel.

On the road or in the parking lot, this ’79 Super Beetle convertible is a delight. Whether at a local car show, dinner at a special restaurant or a night out for ice cream, you can be assured that this car will be noticed and admired by everyone who sees it.

This unique 'Magna Bug" represents not just a great driving experience but a sound investment as well. And it is hard to put a price on the feeling of enjoyment when other drivers and pedestrians wave and give you a “thumbs up” or gather around at the gas station or mall to ogle your car!
