Vehicle Description
This 1965 Shelby Cobra Replica has a lot more to offer than the
usual "high power, low weight" proposition put forth by so many of
its counterparts. Featuring an awesome color combination, excellent
components and a very strong foundation, it's sure to put a smile
on the face of its next lucky owner. Having logged only a little
over 4000 miles, and carrying the receipts to document the quality
of its build, it stands ready to provide miles and miles of future
exhilarating driving.
As component cars, Shelby replicas rise and fall on the quality of
their manufacturers' process and parts. Exacting tolerances,
precise engineering and top tier materials go a long way towards
creating a car that not only looks great, but carries the
outstanding performance abilities the Cobra name is synonymous
with. This replica features components from Factory Five, a
respected manufacturer with more than two decades under their belt
known for their cutting edge, CNC-based processes. The well-fitted
appearance you see here, with body panels that sit flush and level,
is the tangible result of all that precision. Because they're the
automotive equivalent of a blank slate, Cobra replicas are also at
times the victims of some questionable aesthetic choices, but the
intense black hue with painted silver stripes on this '65 will
garner a definite "thumbs up" from whomever sees it. The paint's in
very nice shape - with an even shine and sharp edges on the
stripes. Fresh-looking housings, clean chrome on the front and rear
bumpers and a well-crafted 3-point roll bar complete its quality
look.
Open the door and you'll see that a very nice, "driver-centric"
interior awaits. A pair of Kirkey leather racing seats with 5-point
harnesses sit in place of the generic buckets you often see in
Cobra replicas, offering all the support you need to keep you
firmly in place while addressing turns with authority. A full
complement of Autometer gauges resides inside the dash with clear
faces while just below the dash you'll find the registers for the
(rarely optioned for a Cobra) aftermarket A/C! With the Factory
Five wood grain steering wheel beckoning in front of you and the
floor shifter sitting within very easy reach, you'll feel a
definite urge to fire up the engine and put this nimble classic
through its paces. Raise the lid in back and you'll see that while
this is certainly no family commuter vehicle, there is some space
in back for luggage, and the undented floor indicates that this
replica hasn't run afoul of any unforeseen obstacles.
The drivetrain components have all been chosen and assembled with
high-performance but reliable driving in mind. At the forefront is
a 427-cubic inch Ford Racing crate engine, providing some very
serious horsepower that, combined with this ride's light weight,
makes for outstanding acceleration. It's outfitted with
fuel-injection to provide confidence-inspiring starts in all kinds
of weather, as well as a level of adjustability unattainable with
carburetor-equipped engines. The big displacement powerplant is
paired with a 5-speed manual overdrive transmission to provide low
RPMs on the highway to accompany its off the line prowess, and a
well-proportioned aluminum radiator sits up front to keep
temperatures in check. Combine its low stance, relatively wide
track and both front and rear independent suspension, and you end
up with a car with skid pad abilities matched by very few others on
the road. This high-powered American sports car sits on a set of
17" Halibrand wheels, wrapped with Nitto radials - including a pair
of asphalt-grabbing 315s in back.
