Vehicle Description
In 1978, Chevrolet celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Corvette
by pacing the Indianapolis 500 and releasing a handful of
special-edition pace car replicas to the public. Just 6,502 of
these black and silver Corvette models were ever produced, each
with a unique VIN sequence. In addition to the two-tone paint, each
Corvette Pace Car featured unique front and rear spoilers, polished
aluminum red-stripe wheels, mirror-tint roof panels and contoured
sport seats finished in silver leather. An Indianapolis 500 decal
kit was also included. This Pace Car Edition Corvette is powered by
an L82 350ci V8 engine with 4-bolt mains, forged-steel crank and
aluminum intake, backed by a 3-speed automatic transmission. The
interior features a clamshell seat, air conditioning, power windows
and door locks, a tilt and telescopic steering column, AM/FM/CB
radio and cruise control. This original pace car rides on
polished-aluminum wheels wrapped in white-letter radial tires.
