Chevrolet created a legend with the Z/28, and once Mark Donohue and Roger Penske teamed up, they proved it was ideal for the SCCA Trans Am series. The result was having won the SCCA championship in 1968 and 1969, thus was part of the Z28 legacy that these specialty street releases were built upon.
This Camaro is a true Z/28 package and the beneficiary of a frame-up restoration and is an early variant – non stamped X33-X77 Z/28 car.
Featuring the race-derived DZ code 302 engine, Muncie 4-speed
transmission, 12-bolt differential and the fabled chambered-exhaust
layout that eliminated conventional mufflers.
Paintwork is correct 57 Fathom Green, with white stripes. Body
components include front and rear spoilers, Z28 badging, Rally
wheels and Firestone Sport Car 200 tires. The interior is in
original and correct Midnight Green vinyl, with chrome Hurst floor
shifter, tachometer, center fuel gauge, and cushioned vinyl bucket
seats. In addition, the standard array of Z/28 instrumentation with
dash tachometer and console gauges, large rear bumper guards, power
front disc brakes, Soft-Ray window glass throughout.
The car maintains the correct special suspension with staggered rear shocks and 4-leaf rear springs along with front sway bar, heavy duty 21" radiator & 6-blade clutch fan, deep grove pulleys non X33-X77 designation early Z/28 stampings.
This Z/28 is a fantastic example that is ready for immediate enjoyment.
