For Sale: 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass in Mooresville, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

It's always amazing when you stumble across a classic car that has the American Muscle look that we are all so familiar with, but as you do your homework, you unveil a time in automotive history that is just simply forgotten. Point in case, the two year only SX Oldsmobile Cutlass Supremes.

In 1970, muscle car buyers were starting to feel the grip from not only rising gas prices, but also insurance companies that were raising premiums and rates for owning a V8 gas guzzler. So the manufacturers of GM decided to build a loop-hole into their cars by offering a SS Monte Carlo, or Pontiac with an SJ option on their Grand Prix. Oldsmobile was no different and starting in 1970 they offered buyers a way to get the big 455 that was typically reserved for the 442 by creating a SX option on their Cutlass line. The program was short lived however and only 1970 and 1971 offered the SX option.

This stunning black 1971 Cutlass Supreme SX is one of these rare cars. In 1970, 7,197 SXs left the factory. However, in 1971 only 2,177 SX's were produced. Of those, 1,827 built were the SX coupes. Which means, only 357 SX convertibles were produced in 1971. This is one of the rare 357.

Originally leaving the factory in Viking Blue. This SX received a full frame-off restoration in the late 2000s before being covered in a gorgeous black paint scheme with white stripes, white interior and white top. Today it sits with only 4300 miles since the comprehensive restoration. In May of 2017 it received a nearly $6,000 re-freshening which included new springs and shocks, new bushings, new brakes, new fluids throughout, new gaskets, repaired dual-gate shifter, new fuel lines, repair of all vacuum lines and AC system, fix horn, new 180 thermostat, new air filter, fix power window switch, new battery and new coolant.

Under the hood you'll find the original numbers matching 455 Rocket V8 and the numbers matching TH400 automatic transmission with his and hers shifter that sends power to a 12-bolt rear with the '71 correct 3.08 rear gear. Inside you'll find a gorgeous white bucket seat interior that includes a ton of power options. Not only will you find Power Steering, Power Brakes and tilt wheel, but you'll also appreciate the Power Windows, Power Convertible Top, Tic-Toc Tac (functioning), and Air Conditioning - Which is blowing ice-cold!

Whether you are looking for the rare car to add to your collection or a genuine early 70's muscle car with an amazing story, this is the car for you!
