Vehicle Description
1955 Series 1 86 inch Land Rover RHD
This incredibly original series 1 Land Rover was manufactured by
the Rover Company in 1955 and delivered in CKD (Completely Knocked
Down) form to the Grenville Motors assembly plant in Sydney,
Australia. From there it was sold to its first owner, Mr F. B.
Burton, a farmer from New South Wales, whose sign-written name can
still be found on the front wing. Burton soon put the Land Rover to
good use on the family farm and, as the son of the first owner
recalled, for fishing trips down to Lake Jindabyne and hunting
expeditions. In spite of its hard use and the rugged environment,
Burton's careful ownership and the favourable climate preserved the
car in wonderfully original condition. After several decades of
faithful service in Australia, the Land Rover eventually found its
way back to the UK where it was equally at home driving around
London or taking its new owners up to Norfolk for family summer
holidays.
Having been lovingly used and well maintained over the years this
Land Rover remains incredibly original and displays a wonderful
patina on its original paint. In addition, the chassis is
completely rust freeand has never been welded, and the car has
recently benefitted from an engine and suspension overhaul. UK
registered and ready to enjoy, it offers an unrepeatable
opportunity to acquire a charmingly original Series 1 Land Rover.
