Last year of Mercedes-Benz 560SL production
In 1989, Mercedes-Benz's flagship 560SL would be part of the final
production year, with only 8,251 produced. The Mercedes would find
its way from Daimler-Benz and land at Gauthier Motors, Inc. in
Salem, Massachusetts on May 29th, 1989 where it was then offered
for sale for the first time.
On July 19th, 1989, the 560SL would go home with its first owner,
American Visages, Inc in Lynn, Massachusetts. It would then receive
its first 800-1,000 mile Mercedes-Benz recommended inspection on
September 26th, 1989 with 1,143 miles.
The Mercedes would have its first oil changed performed at Gauthier
Motors, Inc. with only 8,512 miles on the clock on August 28th,
1992. Close to two decades later in 2009, the car would only have
added less than 5,000 miles to the odometer. The Benz would then
make its way to the West Coast.
Upon arriving at Canepa, the Mercedes was fully cosmetically and
mechanically inspected. The car was in excellent mechanical shape
and ran like a new car. The cosmetics were equally as impressive,
with the interior, engine bay and undersides being original. The
car would then be subjected to the Canepa Difference concours-level
detail. The chassis and engine were hand washed, the interior hand
cleaned, and the paint was polished to such a lustrous shine that
it would make Mercedes' quality control technicians jealous.
With documented low mileage, documented early maintenance history
and in stunning mechanical and cosmetic condition, this 560SL is an
excellent example of what an original SL should look like.
