Vehicle Description
In 1961, the Chevrolet introduced the Impala SS or Super Sport to
the market. The new SS badging would soon become Chevrolet's
signature of performance on many of its most popular models. In
1965, Chevrolet had redesigned the Impala and the new, fourth
generation designs were used with minimal updating through 1970.
Chevrolet supplied the Impalas with a variety of engine options
that ranged from a six-cylinder to the powerful big block V-8s. For
the 1967 model year, the standard Impala Series was supplied in six
body styles while the Impala Super Sport Series consisted of only
two body styles: a two-door hardtop, coupe as well as a sporty,
convertible. Approximately 67,000 SS coupes were built while only
9,545 SS convertibles were built. The 1967 Impala SS Convertibles
had a factory base price of approximately 3,600.00. This 1967
Chevrolet Impala Super Sport convertible was built and sold new in
St. Louis. It was purchased by the current owner from the original
owner in about 1983. It today's marketplace, it is difficult to
find a desirable, 1960s era convertible that has had only two
owners from new and has resided in the same city for all of its
life. This car is being sold with a Missouri title with a matching
VIN number of 168677S161633, which indicates that it is a true
Super Sport and built in February of 1967. The mileage is just
under 99,000 from new. As expected from a two-owner car, this Super
Sport Impala Convertible is in excellent, overall condition. The
current and second owner has restored this vehicle as needed during
his 34 years of ownership. Today, this car is ready to use and
enjoy. The body appears to be extremely clean and straight. All of
the bodylines are crisp and clear. The doors, hood and trunk lid
fit the body with even gaps and margins. The body panels look
straight from front to rear, top to bottom. The car has been
recently repainted in the original color of Bolero Red. The paint
is in excellent overall condition with an even and consistent gloss
across all of the body panels. On the inside, the Parchment White
interior is mostly original and shows extremely well. The seats are
firm and the upholstery is clean but not perfect. The front seats
have been recovered in a proper, matching material. The rear seat
assembly and the door panels appear to be original and in very
good, original condition. The front and rear seats match extremely
well. The carpets have been recently replaced and the car is
equipped with factory correct seat belts. This Impala SS is
equipped with the desirable bucket seats and center console. The
dashboard assembly is clean and retains all of its original gauges
and controls. All of the original gauges work properly with the
exception of the clock. The current owner has installed
aftermarket, oil and temperature gauges for safety purposes. The
car retains its original AM radio together with a rear mount manual
antenna and a rear seat speaker. The factory installed, manual
tinted windows are clean and operate smoothly. The convertible top
assembly has been recently restored. All of the hydraulics have
been either rebuilt or replaced as needed. The white top material
is nearly new and shows hardly any wear. The top assembly has a
glass rear window as well as a matching top boot. Top boot does not
fit well and will need some attention to fit properly. Under the
hood, this Impala SS has its original 327 cubic inch/275 horsepower
V-8 engine. The current owner has recently rebuilt the engine. It
is extremely clean and recently detailed with proper decals and
labels throughout. The engine runs extremely well. It starts easily
and idles well. The V-8 has a throaty and solid sound as it exits
through the dual exhaust. The automatic, Powerglide transmission
shifts through the gears smoothly and makes the car easy to
drive. Other original factory options include power brakes,
power steering and the desirable factory air conditioning, which
all function properly. The car has been converted to use R134
Freon. This is a great example of a desirable, fourth generation
Impala Super Sport Convertible. Having had only two owners since
being sold new in 1967 makes its particular desirable amongst
today's knowledgeable collectors who place premium values on cars
with known and low ownership histories. This 1967 Impala SS
Convertible has always been well maintained and actively used. It
presents extremely well inside and out and is a pleasure to drive.
The first two owners cherished and preserved this great convertible
and it is now ready for the third owner to continue the tradition.
