For Sale: 1930 Ford Model A in Manitowoc, Wisconsin

Vehicle Description

All vehicle trades considered, including classics and performance.  I can assist with financing and transport as needed.

I think every car aficionado should have a Model A.  They let you travel back 90 years into automotive history, to a time when cars meant something much different than they do today.  And with items like a floor starter, non-synchro transmission, column spark control, skinny tires, and a gravity feed fuel system it’s a whole different way of getting around.

This 1930 rumble seat Coupe is a splendid example of the Model A experience.  It has been through a professional frame-off restoration that included several updates for improved performance.  The body remains all steel and is in fantastic condition.  It was painted

authentic Kewanee Green with Elkpoint Green trim, further accented by Apple Green wheels and pinstriping.  As seen in the pictures, the underside received the same attention as the topside, with everything being cleaned, rebuilt, and painted.  All the chrome looks great as do the Goodyear 4.75-19” whitewall tires.

The 201 cubic inch engine received a comprehensive rebuild starting with a 0.100” overbore.  While you couldn’t do this with a small block Chevy, this is a very safe figure for the old Ford flathead.  It was also converted from babbit to insert bearings throughout.  It received higher compression pistons along with a Brierly SU1R camshaft.  Up top is a Brumfield Super cylinder head and a Model B carburetor.  The intake was bored to match.  Other improvements include a leakless water pump and lightweight flywheel.  The end product is estimated at 65 hp - a significant improvement over the factory’s 40 hp setup!

The rest of the drivetrain remains stock (though fully rebuilt).  Same with the suspension, brakes, and steering.  The electrical system remains 6V but has been converted to an alternator for better charging along with an Optima battery.  There is also a radiator overflow reservoir mounted under the floor.

The interior was completely redone with high quality LeBaron Bonney brown check upholstery, while the rumble seat was done in vinyl.  Note the chrome instrument panel and woodgrain trim.  The speedometer, fuel gauge, and ammeter all work.  So do the wiper and parking brake.  Column turn signals were added, as were cabin seat belts and a rear window shade.  There is also a Rex-A-Co water temperature gauge along with a winged Moto-Meter radiator cap.  The Sparton horn is a nice touch too.

It’s hard not to smile when driving this car.  It runs every bit as good as it looks, and is the best driving Model A that I’ve had.  It obviously doesn’t give the refinement or performance of a modern vehicle, but instead offers an automotive experience that everyone should have.
