the Mustang in 1964 created a new class of automobile known as the
pony car. The Mustang's styling, with its long hood & short deck,
proved wildly popular & inspired a host of competition including
Camaro, Firebird, Cougar & others.
This restored 1966 Springtime Yellow Mustang at Carlynn Clean
Classics, has been refinished in a beautiful, period correct,
2-stage paint w/black racing stripes, Shelby hood scoop, Shelby
side panel stripe package & PRISTINE CHROME/ STAINLESS trim inside
& out.
The Mustang's engine is a re-built 289 cu in, 4 bbl carb w/headers,
new exhaust w/trumpets, & automatic transmission w/shift kit.

The first-generation Ford Mustang was manufactured by Ford from
March 1964 until 1973. It was initially introduced as a hardtop &
convertible with the fastback version put on sale in August 1964.
At the time of its introduction, the Mustang, shared its
underpinnings with the Falcon & was slotted into a compact car
segment.
Lee Iacocca's assistant general manager & chief engineer, Donald N.
Frey, was the head engineer for the Mustang project. He supervised
the development of the Mustang in a record 18 months, from
September 1962 to March 1964, while Iacocca himself, championed the
project as Ford Division general manager.
Drawing on inspiration from the mid-engined Ford Mustang I concept
vehicle, Lee Iacocca ordered development of a new "small car" to
Eugene Bordinat, vice-president of design at Ford.
The design teams was given 5 goals for the design of the Mustang:
Seat four w/bucket seats, have a floor mounted shifter, weigh no
more than 2,500 lbs, have a max length of 180" & sell for less than
$2,500 w/multiple power, comfort & luxury options.
Introduced 4 months before the normal start of the 1965 production
year & manufactured alongside 1964 Ford Falcons & Mercury Comets,
the earliest Mustangs are widely referred to as the 1964� models.
Nevertheless, all "1964�" cars were given 1965 U.S. standard VINs
with limited exception to the earliest of promotional materials &
were marketed by Ford as 1965 models. Standard equipment for the
early 1965 Mustangs included: black front seat belts, glove box
light, & padded dash. Production began in March 1964 with official
introduction on April 17 at the 1964 World's Fair.
The 1966 Mustang debuted with moderate trim changes including: new
grille, side ornamentation, wheel covers & gas cap. Ford's new C-4,
"cruise-o-matic", three-speed auto transmission became available as
an option for the 225 hp V8.
The 1966 Mustangs are differentiated by variations in the exterior,
despite similar design. These variations include emblems on the
quarter-panels behind the doors. All 1966 models had emblems
smaller in height w/three horizontal bars extending from the design
resembling an "E". Also changed were the front intake grilles &
ornaments. The 1966 version was a "slotted" style & used the "Horse
and Corral" emblem on the grille with the bars removed.
