Flashy muscle cars are fun and polished customs are nice, but there's really nothing cooler than a well-done truck. No gimmicks, no frills and no posturing: just power and presence - LOTS of presence. This exceptionally clean C10 is a subdued stunner that mixes 350 cubic inches of Ram Jet V8 with a professional grade driveline, crisp aesthetics and a frame-off, nut-and-bolt restoration. And if you're looking for a cool classic that's both road ready and show-ready, it's the perfect way to cruise the scene and turn some heads!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Like many of today's primped and polished workhorses, this Chevy spent many years as an everyday runabout. The truck's present owner, a classic car restorer by trade, entered the picture about 30 years ago, when it's tough profile and faded paint was a common sight around Cornelius, North Carolina. Between customer jobs, that owner began detailed restoration work. And in the summer of 2013, this C10 left a frame-off, nut-and-bolt restoration that took the truck from solid, bare metal all the way to classy Spies Hecker Chevrolet Butternut Yellow 2-stage.

While the basic shape of the Action Line Series is certainly appealing, first-rate detailing is what makes this pickup really pop. At the front of the truck, a polished grille centers a broad "CHEVROLET" script between small parking lamps, clean headlights and a smoothed, body-matched bumper. Above that grille, polished wipers front smoked glass, which is reflected in fifth-generation Corvette-style mirrors. Beneath that glass, a sculpted profile hangs new fenders and original, shaved doors behind a power antenna, a flush fuel filler and stylish trim that features vinyl woodgrain accents. And at the back of that profile, an original bed seats stainless-trimmed wood between factory tail lamps and a tasteful roll pan that's finished with LED directionals.

ENGINE

Activate the coated hood supports and you'll find a mean GM Performance Parts Ram Jet 350 that's good for 350 horsepower and 400 lb./ft. of tire-twisting torque! At that top of that 2-bolt small block, a polished air cleaner feeds wind to GM electronic fuel injection. At the back of the mill, a reliable points distributor swirls fire around polished, Chevrolet-branded valve covers with the help of loomed GM wires. At the base of those covers, Vortec heads and aluminum roller rockers combine with roller lifters, a hydraulic roller cam, an iron crank, powdered connecting rods and hypereutectic pistons to create stout 9 to 1 compression. A polished serpentine drive spins a polished alternator opposite a modern AC compressor. And an aluminum, bowtie-capped radiator floats monochromatic water tubes around big SPAL puller fans.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Bottom-side, a 1989 700R4 4-speed, fully rebuilt during the truck's extensive restoration, centers a polished pan and polished flywheel cover in front of an open axle that's finished with 3.08 gears. Fluid power steering leads a 1979 Chevy C10 front-clip. Stops come courtesy of a polished brake booster, which jolts two calipers and two drums. Ceramic-coated exhaust manifolds funnel spent gases through aluminized pipes, familiar turbo mufflers and polished stainless tips. And everything rolls on Corvette-style turbines, which spin 235/70R15 Uniroyal Tiger Paw GTS.

INTERIOR

In the '60s, trucks were all about comfort and utility - not DVDs, wireless and navigation systems. That's why it's so refreshing to hop in the cab of this purposeful but nicely appointed C10. The star of the show is a custom-covered split-bench, sourced from a 2004 Silverado. At the front of the cockpit, a wood-trimmed dash hangs Classic Instruments telemetry next to a Kenwood head unit and Classic Auto air conditioning. At the sides of that dash, ornate door panels found power windows behind billet handles. And the driver spins a 2-tone Impala wheel around a color-keyed, tilting column.
