Vehicle Description
If you're in the market for something fun that's guaranteed to hold
its appeal for a very long time, it's hard to go wrong with a lust
worthy truck! America's favorite mode of transportation is finally
commanding the respect it deserves. And with awesome classics like
this brilliant C10 mixing red carpet looks with everyday
drivability, it's not hard to see why. A perfect blend of timeless
style and proven mechanicals, this handsome half-ton is a
first-rate exercise in old school charm and vintage swagger. And if
you're looking for a super cool cruiser that can be enjoyed for
years to come, it's the classic of your dreams!
BODYWORK/TRIM
As far as styling goes, few vehicles have aged better than late
'60s and early '70s Chevrolets. In fact, toeing the line between
rock-solid and refined, the Action Line C/K is probably one of the
most attractive trucks ever built. Making the best of that model's
boxy proportions, this fleetside C10 seals epic PPG Race Red paint
under a glossy clearcoat shell. That incredible 2-stage highlights
a laser-straight body, the result of a ground-up restoration that
wrapped in the Spring of 2014. That clean body, which entered its
detailed rebuild as a largely rust-free, 44K-mile short bed,
exhibits top-notch metalwork. And best of all, those panels remain
just as GM designed them, with nothing frenched, filled or altered
in any major way.
That said, there are some cool details that really make this pickup
pop. The baubles begin with a stainless-trimmed grille, which hangs
a famous red bowtie between bright halogen headlights, a mirrored
bumper and factory parking lamps. Behind that grille, a "C H E V R
O L E T" branded hood leads the eye to tinted glass that's centered
between polished wipers, painted drip rails and straight Custom
frames. At the sides of that glass, the truck's stainless-trimmed
profile seats small mirrors, traditional door handles and clean
"Custom" badging above red bowties, requisite reflectors and a
simple fuel filler. And at the back of that profile, a clean bed
plants filled stake pockets in front of a "C H E V R O L E T"
branded tailgate, factory taillights and a second mirrored
bumper.
ENGINE
Pop the hood and you'll find a spry, 350 cubic inch Chevrolet small
block that's been polished, rebuilt and fitted with a .030
overbore. Revs are created when an attractive, bowtie-capped air
cleaner floats wind in to an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, by way
of a coated Edelbrock carburetor. At the perimeter of that intake,
Chevrolet-stamped valve covers hang a polished breather over iron
Summit Racing heads that feature 2.02-inch intake valves and
1.60-inch exhaust valves. Behind that breather, an aftermarket HEI
distributor shoots spark through loomed MSD Street Fire plug wires.
That distributor tops a tough Lunati cam, which vibrates coated
Hedman Hedders. At the front of those tubes, traditional V-belts
spin a polished alternator, a polished AC compressor and modern
power steering. And at the front of those ancillaries, an Optima
gel cell battery joins a 4-core radiator to provide reliability and
longevity. Thanks to choice contrasting of painted and polished
surfaces, the iron mill looks decidedly fresh in front of the
truck's smoothed firewall. And details, like a chrome brake
booster, a polished oil pan, braided fluid lines and a quality Mr.
Gasket fuel regulator, look good and function great!
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Bottom-side, this C10 features a host of noteworthy upgrades.
Everything starts with a smoothed factory chassis that was coated
in 2-stage during the truck's frame-off restoration. Behind the
sweet engine, a proven Turbo-Hydramatic 350 3-speed makes excellent
use of a 2,400 RPM Hughes stall converter. That fully sorted
drivetrain rides a smoothed and painted suspension that fronts
4-inch drop springs with 1-inch lowering springs and 2.5-inch drop
spindles. Stops are provided by a traditional combination of
power-assisted drums and power-assisted calipers. Modern power
steering provides good feel and great performance. Spent gases
float from the aforementioned headers to throaty turbo mufflers.
Power meets the pavement through polished Billet Specialties
wheels, which spin 235/45R18 Goodyear Eagle LS2s in front of
275/40R20 Yokohama S.drives. And everything, from this Chevy's
polished transmission pan to its 12-bolt axle, is fresh, expertly
finished and ready for action.
INTERIOR
In the '70s, trucks were all about comfort and utility - not DVDs,
wireless and navigation systems. That's why it's so refreshing to
hop in the cab of this purposeful but nicely appointed half-ton.
The star of the show is an embossed vinyl bench that's both firm
and broad. In front of that seat, a padded and painted dash centers
modern Pioneer audio above Vintage Air climate control. Steering is
channeled through a color-keyed Chevrolet Rally Wheel, which laps a
tilting Flaming River column. Below that wheel, stain-free carpet
highlights Pioneer kick speakers and stainless-trimmed foot pedals.
And above that carpet, bowtie-branded door panels found traditional
handles in front of small armrests.
