Vehicle Description
If one car could be credited with associating the Ferrari brand
with approachability, the California would be it. By mixing a Grand
Touring body with familiar Italian traits and proven prancing horse
performance, it welcomed a whole new group of followers to the
fold. It arguably kicked off the firm's transition from hardcore
sports cars to shooting brakes and even SUVs. And in terms of
price, performance and prestige, there's little doubt the car
creates the ownership experience of a lifetime! Logging a mere
14,548 miles, this drop-top stunner combines a rev-happy 8-cylinder
with a whole roster of luxury and performance equipment. And in
terms of power, condition, fun factor and flat out style, you
simply won't find a more incredible car for the money!
BODYWORK/TRIM
There's just something about a Ferrari that conveys the perfect
combination of excellent dynamics and world class exclusivity, and
this 3-owner California, dressed in a slick coat of Rosso Corsa
2-stage, puts a traditional twist on a fresh favorite. Accompanied
by a clean CARFAX, this convertible's pristine body has been
lovingly cared for. Its professionally detailed surfaces are
straight, solid and free of major glitches. And today, only seven
years into its life, this awesome sports car is one of the nicest
modern classics on the planet!
As the 'entry-level model' for the Ferrari line-up, the California
is essentially an approachable sports car that veils some of the
brand's best engineering elements in unique trim pieces. At the
front of the car, a stretched nose hangs a classic Ferrari crest
between a small splitter, HID headlights and a toothy,
horse-branded grille. At the top of the car, a scooped hood fronts
a pristine greenhouse, which folds a power-operated roof behind
tinted mirrors. At the sides of the car, sculpted rockers frame
sculpted panels, which center red louvers, small turn indicators
and low-mount door handles between requisite Ferrari badges and
ornate Pininfarina scripts. And at the back of the car,
rocket-style tail lamps illuminate a Ferrari- branded trunk and an
aggressive rear fascia that's complete with quad-outlet exhaust
tips.
ENGINE
Naturally, all that visual testosterone is backed up with plenty of
power from the engine room. In this first-generation guise,
Maranello's familiar 4.3 liter V8 benefits from significant
upgrades that make it more efficient and more reliable. Those
tweaks result in an impressive output of 454 horsepower and 357
lb./ft. of torque. And, in typical Ferrari fashion, the car sounds
as fierce as a racer. Those numbers translate to a lightweight
roadster that's capable of brisk four second 60 MPH sprints and a
quarter-mile time of 11.9 seconds. The substantial updates provide
torque throughout the RPM range, creating a very drivable car
anywhere from Saturday track days to rush hour commutes. The high
tech mill, widely regarded as one of the world's best powertrains,
features a great combination of race-proven technology and
traditional smoothness. And, based on appearance, the silky engine
has been meticulously maintained and carefully driven. This is
definitely a have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too Ferrari!
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
As one of the automakers that pioneered nimble front engine, rear
wheel drive powertrains, Ferrari has been generally praised for
their exceptionally athletic platforms. Take a close look under
this svelte California and you'll see just how much work went in to
its track-tested engineering. Naturally, there's a fully
independent suspension, which frames a 7-speed dual-clutch
transmission. Smooth power steering leads Brembo carbon ceramic
brakes that are highlighted by red, Ferrari-branded calipers. And
in front of those brakes, 20-inch diamond-finish sport wheels spin
245/35 Michelin Pilot Super Sports in front of 285/35 Michelin
Pilot Super Sports.
INTERIOR
Inside, it's all about a symbiotic relationship between cutting
edge performance and traditional, 'old world' luxury. At the center
of the car, power-operated seats wear predictable Crema leather
under contrasting black stitching. Between those seats, a simple
center stack frames a high-end sound system that's complete with
navigation. At the base of that stack, fade-free carpet frames an
attractive, aluminum-trimmed console that's finished with factory
climate control and buttons for the car's transmission. In front of
the driver, a carbon fiber steering wheel with LED shift indicators
laps carbon fiber transmission paddles. A 2-tone dash hangs a
yellow tachometer and electroluminescent telemetry above metal foot
pedals. And throughout this leather-lined cockpit you'll find the
usual assortment of luxury appointments and convenience features
including: Cruise Control, a full array of airbags and full power
accessories.
