For Sale: 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air in St. Louis, Missouri

Vehicle Description

Remarkable frame off restored, 3-owner example from new! Loaded with options including Dual-Quad Power Pak engine, 3-speed manual transmission, power steering, power top, Coker Classic wide whitewalls tires, and more!! Beautifully appointed in factory color combination and features a nice list of accessories! Recently fully serviced! Act quickly! While originally devised as a means for competing with Ford in the mid-50s, the Chevrolet 150/210/Bel Air quickly gained a life and reputation of its own. And of which captured the imaginations of both young and old, few have proven to be as iconic and desirable as the 1956 Bel Air Convertible! With lines which evoke the simplicity of purpose and design of a less complicated time, this is a pillar of American automotive history and a car which dedicated enthusiasts will recognize as representing a fleeting opportunity to acquire an important American classic! Offered here is a gorgeous frame-off restored 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible finished in factory code correct India Ivory & Matador Red exterior with matching Ivory & Red vinyl pattern interior! Under the hood lies a 1956 date-code correct 265ci V8 engine mated to a 3-speed manual transmission. Options include updated dual Carter WCFB carburetion (originally 4bbl Power Pak) offering 225 horsepower, 12-volt Delco-Remy charging system, power steering, power folding convertible top, door handle paint protectors, fender & rocker moldings, full wheel covers, G78-15 wide whitewall Coker Classic tires, gas pedal pad, rubber interior floor mats, front & rear bumper guards, dual exhaust with glass packs & dual oval tips, electric windshield wipers, front & rear seatbelts, working pushbutton AM radio, heat/defrost, interior courtesy lights, and rear trunk mat! Hailed from only three previous owners, it truly is a remarkable example! Originally purchased by a doctor in New York for his wife to enjoy, it spent the first 49 years being enjoyed during the summer months, and stored in their basement garage otherwise. They had the car restored in professional, frame off fashion in the early 2003 only to decide to sell it afterward as brand new in 2005. The second Fort Worth, TX owner enjoyed the car, now upgraded with a 3-speed manual in place of the original, 2-speed Powerglide, and the addition of the dual quad carburetion! Everything on the car was new; wiring, completed suspension, total braking system, weather stripping, fuel system, rebuilt drivetrain, and more! The undercarriage was fully detailed with red oxide primer just as original, along with a base coat/clear refinish of the exterior paint in the factory appointed colors. He added roughly 3,500 over the next 8 years before electing to sell it in 2013 to a Lake Ariel, PA owner. This owner added another 160 miles to the odometer with only minimal use during the summer months through 2017 now totaling 3,662 miles on the odometer. For this reason, before arrival to the St. Louis Car Museum, the car was thoroughly inspected by A-Tech Automotive in Columbia, NJ and a full comprehensive mechanical restoration commenced in January 2017. This included new rear main seal, front crank seal, new Gates water pump & gasket, new timing cover gasket, fresh intake gasket, new thermostat & gasket, new upper & lower GM radiator hoses, drive belts, new fuel sending unit, fuel filter & housing, upper & lower ball joints, inner & outer tie rod ends, idler arm, center link bushings, new driveshaft universal joints, rear axle seals & bearings with fresh differential fluid; new power steering hoses, all new brake shoes, wheel cylinders, hardware, rubber brake hoses, new master cylinder & rod, and fresh DOT 3 fluid; all new clutch, pressure plate, release & pilot bearings, along with rebuilt transmission! Once the engine and transmission were reunited, fresh spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, points & condenser were installed, ignition timing set, new oil & filter, new battery & cables, and carburetors adjusted perfectly! New Coker Classic whitewalls and four-wheel alignment completed everything. This service totaled nearly $12,500 to ensure the next lucky owners can use with absolute mental comfort! A splendid driver and still absolutely gorgeous cosmetically, buy with confidence! Call with any questions or schedule a chance to review in person. Thanks for looking!
