Vehicle Description
You're looking at a real-deal code-44 1970 Oldsmobile 442 hardtop
with the ultra-desirable W-30 package. And between its full cool
blue presentation and performance-built 455 V8 under the hood, this
is a head-turner with head-snapping power.
You're going to love the paint the moment the sunshine hits this
super-straight body. After all, when was the last time you saw an
Oldsmobile in its factory-correct shade of Azure Blue? It has a
bright personality that's highlighted further by the gloss of clear
coat that came during a professional respray. Plus, we love how the
deeper blue stripe package highlights some of the most aggressive
features of this fastback body. At the same time, it demonstrates
how straight the sheet metal is. This A-body retains its unique
Oldsmobile identity thanks to chrome bumpers (correctly notched for
the dual exhaust in the rear) and a few bright stainless trim
pieces that really dress it up - especially on the Olds-specific
SS1 Mag-style wheels. This one continues to hit all the right notes
with W-30 badging, fiberglass force-air hood, twist lock hood pins,
and spoiler on the rear deck. Plus, you can easily see the
lightweight red inner fenders that are the hallmark of the W-30
package.
It's not just that this one retains its factory-correct blue vinyl
interior, but also its desirability comes from the handsome
button-pattern buckets that instantly attract so much attention. In
between the buckets is the center console that's a very desirable
option. Of course, as an Olds, there's plenty of burled walnut
applique on the dash, door panels, and console. It does a very nice
job of adding a Olds-level premium character to the interior. The
terrific condition of it all lets you know there was a solid
investment here in preservation and restoration. It makes for a
great machine to share with family and friends. But even when it's
Just you, this 442 is a fine driver's sports coupe. The four-spoke
sports steering wheel should look familiar to any Olds fan, and
beyond that is the cool round gauge package. Of course, that His &
Hers Hurst shifter boldly protruding from the center console is a
whole lot of fun.
Under the hood is exactly what you want to see - a 455 cubic-inch
V8 within the red fenders. This is a service replacement block, so
you get the correct Rochester four-barrel carburetor, aluminum
intake, heads, distributor, and alternator from the original W-30
car, but it's now on a block that didn't spend its first few years
playing stoplight dragstrip. And today, those great hood scoops
still feed the massive vacuum operated ram air topper, and the
power makes a great rumble out of the dual exhaust. So it's a coupe
with 400+ cubic inches, four-barrel carb, and dual exhaust - a true
'70 Olds 4-4-2. The stout TH400 three-speed automatic is believed
to be original to the car, and the consignor said it was rebuilt to
continue to provide reliable performance. Add in power steering,
sway bars front & rear, and front disc brakes, and this Olds
reminds you that its mission was to be both fast and
comfortable.
As a real 442 W-30 coupe you'll be happy to know the sale comes
with the factory buildsheet and maintenance records. Yes, this
muscle car is that good and that rare, so you better hurry before
it's gone forever. Call now!
