In order to optimize your experience in the collector car hobby,
you have to cover a few basics. First, there's power. The best
thing about America's most storied sports car is the thrill of its
legendary V8. Secondly, there's appeal. Nothing quite matches the
pride of turning heads while rumbling down Main Street. And third:
there's longevity. It's always best to wrap power and appeal in a
quality restoration that'll provide years of reliable cruising.
When it comes to hitting those essential tenets, this
second-generation Corvette is an excellent proposition. It nails
the power part of the equation with a 430 horsepower LS3 crate
engine that was ordered directly from Chevrolet Performance. Appeal
is certainly no problem, since it's a mid-year coupe that's decked
in slick Blade Silver 2-stage. And longevity is virtually
guaranteed, given the car's professional, ground-up restoration.

BODYWORK/TRIM
Sourced from the rolling hills of Virginia, this Sting Ray is
roughly 500 miles out of a professional, ground-up restoration that
was conducted by Mike Coletta of Classic Restoration LLC. That
reboot planted solid fiberglass under wet-looking PPG Blade Silver
2-stage that was borrowed from the seventh-generation Corvette's
playbook. And that pigment shines well against a full rendition of
second-generation Corvette trim. At the front of the car,
bullet-style marker lights, a brilliant bumper and a prominent red,
white and black cross-flag emblem cage a stainless-trimmed grille.
At the sides of that grille, traditional door handles and factory
heat extractors float between stainless rocker guards a polished
bowtie mirror. Opposite that mirror, Detroit Speed headlights and a
small block hood lead the eye to a lightly tinted greenhouse. And
behind that greenhouse, a chrome-trimmed fuel filler and clean
"Sting Ray" script cap factory taillights, a chrome tag bracket,
more brilliant bumpers and a custom roll pan that's fashioned
around polished, quad-outlet exhaust tips.
ENGINE
Tilt the car's power-operated hood and you'll find 6.2 liters of
Chevrolet Performance LS3 that twists respectable 10.7 to 1
compression into 430 horsepower and 425 lb./ft. of torque. At the
top of that buff mill, a polished air tube funnels wind in to a
proven GM throttle body, which feeds a lightweight GM intake. That
air meets spark in rectangular-port L92-style heads, which ride
under Corvette-branded fuel rail covers. A nodular crank, powdered
connecting rods and hypereutectic pistons compress that volatile
union. A high-lift hydraulic roller cam maximizes intake efficiency
through better breathing. Speaking of breathing, the smooth small
block funnels spent gases through shielded manifolds. There's a
lightweight aluminum radiator that's slid in front of a big puller
fan. Attractive Vintage Air Front Runner components spin a polished
alternator opposite a polished AC compressor. And the car's glossy
engine bay incorporates a smoothed firewall behind niceties like
braided fluid lines and a polished master cylinder.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Bottom-side, a powder-coated Corvette Corrections chassis proves
the perfect foundation for the car's inspired resurrection. Behind
the LS3, a 4L65E 4-speed kicks a Dana 36 pumpkin, which twists a
posi-traction differential around mild, 3.07 gears. That
curve-carving chassis rides a fourth-generation Corvette
suspension, which is turned by power rack-and-pinion steering.
Solid stops are provided by four red calipers, which squeeze four
vented discs. Spent gases traverse aluminized pipes to vibrate an
X-shaped crossover and a large Magnaflow muffler. And torque meets
the pavement via sixth-generation Grand Sport-style alloys, which
spin 245/45ZR18 Michelin Pilot Sports in front of 255/45ZR18
Michelin Pilot Sports.
INTERIOR
Inside this Chevy you'll find vivid Roman Red leather that was
supplied by Texas's Al Knoch Interiors. Tight buckets seats feel
firm to the touch, showing virtually no signs of wear. In front of
those seats, a 2-tone dash hangs Dakota Digital telemetry next to
Bluetooth-capable audio and Vintage Air climate control. Under that
dash, a small console centers a booted Lokar shifter in front of
chrome buttons for factory power windows. And in front of the
driver, a color-keyed steering wheel laps a polished, tilting
column that's finished with modern Cruise Control.
