Convertible factory ordered with the optional, rare and very
desirable upgrade of the Big Block 'High Power Option' of the 352
CID 'Thunderbird Interceptor Special' 4 BBL 300HP 10.2:1
Compression Ratio V8 engine with dual exhausts and with factory
specifications and desirable options including Cruise-o-matic
automatic transmission, 'Shift-Sure' Power Brakes, 'Master-Guide'
Power Steering, Power soft top, Magic air heater and defroster,
'Frigiking' air conditioning, AM radio, Electric clock, full wheel
covers, white sidewall tires, rear fender skirts and the rare
factory Continental kit! This particular example has been restored
as required over the years with beautiful original 'Style Tone'
'Raven Black amp; Sun Gold over Colonial White' color paint with a
matching 'Colonial Soft-Textured Vinyl amp; Black/White/Gold
Whipcord Embossed' interior and this is a car which was has
obviously always been garaged and well maintained. The floor
boards, trunk and all the typical rust-prone areas are completely
solid and rust-free and the car has no signs of any accidents -
obviously a garaged and cherished car since new. The car has a
beautiful and new 'Colonial White' power soft top and tonneau boot
cover and a striking Chrome Continental Kit! The car's original
'FE' Big Block 352 4 BBL 'Interceptor' V8 engine is extremely
strong and powerful and sounds absolutely magnificent and the
transmission shifts smoothly through the gears. The car boasts
power brakes and power steering, a power top and factory heating
and air conditioning. All the chrome was obviously recently removed
and re-chromed.This car drives absolutely magnificently - must be
driven to be believed - does not miss a beat and purrs like a
kitten - drives straight as an arrow with no strange road wobbles,
shakes or rattles - a truly remarkable daily driver that will give
any modern day car a run for it's money! The transmission shifts
smoothly through the gears and the car has four virtually new
white-wall tires and new hub caps from 1959 but with its original
'58 hubcaps still in the trunk! Please note that the car also
boasts its original trunk lining, an extremely rare and unusual
occurrence as you will no doubt agree, and simply further proof of
its rare originality! Ford received a fairly heavy handed facelift
for 1958 with quad headlights and tailights, a larger chrome front
bumper and grille, dummy hood scoop and new bodystyle trim. The
1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Sunliner Convertible cost only $400 less
than it's sibling, the world's first production retractable
hardtop-convertible, but what an expensive $400 that cost would
prove to be for the retractable owner! Stylists did their best to
provide enough room for what seemed like a good idea at the time
but the engineering to get that huge retractable roof to slide back
into the trunk area proved just too complicated with too much to go
wrong! Nevertheless both models earned their 'Milestone car status'
and today the less complicated, and to many enthusiasts, more
attractive 'Sunliner' model, is highly sought after by Ford
collectors internationally, especially loaded models like this with
the highly desirable top-of-the-line Big Block 'Grand Daddy' 352
cid 'Thunderbird Interceptor Special' H.O. 4BBL 300HP V8 enginen
with dual exhausts. This is a rare opportunity to own a beautifully
restored as necessary over the years of an otherwise very stock and
original Long Beach, CA built in August 1958 Ford Fairlane 500
Sunliner Convertible. It is a great daily driving example in very
fine original condition throughout with it's original highly
desirable 352 V8 300HP engine and loaded with virtually every
desirable factory option of its day apart from power windows and
seats!
