After increasing big-block V-8 displacement across the board to 454
CI in 1970, Chevrolet issued Corvette-order guides listing a new
enticement in the form of theLS7engine option rated at 460 or 465
HP. It was intended to be the big-block counterpart to
theLT1small block, including aluminum heads, higher compression
and a solid-lifter cam. Sadly, it was dropped from the lineup
before a single copy left the plant, but in 1971 Corvette buyers
received a boost with the introduction of theLS6454/425 HP
engine, adetunedversion of the stillbornLS7460 HP engine. While
not endowed with theLS7'sprojected power, theLS6was nonetheless
a seriouspowerplant, employing forged internals, a special
camshaft, aluminum intake with Holley 800CFMfour-barrel and
open-chamber aluminum heads. A total of 188LS6Corvettes were
produced; it is believed that fewer than 50 were convertibles and
just seven were equipped with the heavy-dutyM403-speed automatic
transmission. This car was restored by one of the foremost experts
on Corvettes and no expenses were spared. This car has the FACTORY
ORIGINAL AND MATCHING NUMBERS Engine andDrivelineas well as Trim
and Vin Tags.
