Vehicle Description
Built for a period of 24 years for most countries but carried
through for Brazil until 2001, the 40 series of Land Cruiser has
definitely become a staple of four-wheel drive enthusiasts and
collectors alike. They were built to compete with the Jeep mainly
and were a compact SUV that had a couple different variants such as
SUV, pickup, a 4-door wagon and a long wheel-base troop hauler.
They also offered a variety of engine options which consisted of
inline 6-cylinders, 4-cylinder diesels and one 6-cylinder diesel.
The standard gasoline engine used in 1977 was the 4.2liter
producing 135 HP with a better than average torque ratio of 210 ft
lbs.
This particular FJ40 is absolutely gorgeous. It came to us from a
long stay in Arkansas. It is powered by its 4.2L 2F inline 6 engine
paired with a manual transmission. The Cruiser has power brakes and
rides on 15" wheels with 31x10.5 BFG All Terrain tires. Mounted on
the front bumper is a Smittybilt XRC 9,000 lb winch. The Cruiser
also has the rear jump seats, rear heat, rear mounted spare tire,
Taylor Altimeter Barometer, owners manual and a locking Tuffy
center console.
This truck was selectively restored to be a nice driver that you
can use. It goes down the road as it should; starting, shifting and
stopping nicely. Toyota FJ 40's are the hottest vintage 4X4 on the
market. Their nostalgia, ability to go anywhere and reliability
surpasses all.
