For Sale: 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 in Macedonia, Ohio

Vehicle Description

Real-deal matching-numbers Z/28. High-quality restoration in original colors (Olympic Gold and black). Runs and drives superbly, laser-straight bodywork, very well detailed. A high-grade Z/28 with a pedigree that you can actually drive.

This 1969 Camaro Z/ has been comprehensively restored by a shop that knows these cars inside and out and for the most part, they stuck to the original recipe. Olympic Gold with a black vinyl interior and stripes was this car’s original combination, so that’s what went back on the sheetemetal when it was all done, and we have to say we love the look. It was finished perhaps seven years ago but has less than 5000 miles on the restoration, so it remains quite fresh throughout. Take a look at the door gaps, the way the cowl-induction hood fits, and the way the rear spoiler hugs the deck lid—someone was paying attention when this one went back together. The black Z/28 stripes were buried under the clear for a seamless look and it is nicely dressed up with quarter panel gill inserts, stainless fender trim, and optional bumper guards that really look cool. Lenses, bumpers, emblems, and other trim pieces are in excellent condition as well.

Inside, it’s standard Camaro fare, but that’s a good thing. Black vinyl buckets flank a center console, and all the soft parts are new. Correct reproduction door panels and carpets work with a new headliner to make the interior look and feel like new, and there’s no stone that was left unturned during the restoration. The gauges are bright and crisp, with the tachometer showing a correct 6000 RPM redline (the 302 does love to rev!). Fully operational auxiliary gauges are down on the console (interestingly enough, the tach and gauges were separate options) along with the chrome shifter for the 4-speed manual transmission. Even the original AM radio is still in the dash! You also get a properly finished trunk with a reproduction mat, full jack assembly, and matching spare assembly which might just be wearing its original spare tire.

The engine is the original, numbers-matching DZ-coded 302 cubic inch V8. Deliberately under-rated at 290 horsepower (to match the Ford Mustang Boss 302), it’s a fantastic machine if your hobby is driving. This one was fully rebuilt to stock specs in 2007 (about 5000 miles ago) and it runs superbly, starting with a bark from the exhaust and settling into an eager, lopey idle. Yes, it’s supposed to do that. It’ll pull through all the gears without seeming to run out of breath and for “only” 302 cubes, this sucker is STRONG! Wearing a correct cowl induction air cleaner assembly, finned valve covers that were unique to the Z/28, and Chevy Orange paint, it looks very correct under the hood. They even replicated the shift stamps on the firewall and used GM-stamped hoses and tower hose clamps. You’ll note that the carburetor is a later unit with an electric choke and there are long-tube headers, but both the original Holley carburetor and cast iron exhaust manifolds are included with the car if you want to make it 100% authentic.

Nice floors wear an even layer of undercoating that protects without hiding any details, and almost everything that moves is new or rebuilt. That’s the original, numbers-matching code B Muncie M21 4-speed manual gearbox that was rebuilt at the same time as the engine and the original 12-bolt rear end (with correct BU stamp) carries 3.73 gears on a Posi limited slip. New lines and hoses, a fresh Flowmaster dual exhaust system that sounds wicked, and rebuilt brakes make it a joy to drive, fast or slow. It is currently sitting on factory Rally wheels with original-spec E70-15 Goodyear Wide Tread GT bias-ply tires, but there’s a set of custom KWC 18-inch 3-piece wheels that are available with the car (please inquire).

Documentation includes restoration receipts, engine build details, manuals, cam card, and other important paperwork.

This is a fully sorted, 100% matching-numbers Z/28 in unusual colors that’s ready to enjoy. It doesn’t get much better than that. Call today!
