A collector’s dream!
Considered the pinnacle of the Silver Cloud series, the Silver
Cloud III was unveiled during the fall of 1962 in Paris. The
obvious changes were external with the inclusion of a four headlamp
layout being the most prominent. In addition, the radiator grill
was shortened and as a result the bonnet was given a slightly
increased slope. An improved interior was a contributing factor in
a 220lb loss of curb weight over the Silver Cloud II, however the
increase of power to weight ratio was further enhanced by the Crewe
engineers who gave the 6.2 litre V8 a 7% increase in power by
raising the compression ratio and increasing the size of the
carburetors. The Silver Cloud III was the last Rolls-Royce to be
built using body-on-frame construction, with the last example being
produced in 1966. Only 2,044 Silver Cloud III’s were built in its
short three years of production, the lowest of all the Silver Cloud
Series. The quality and craftsmanship of the Silver Cloud helps to
elevate it from practically every other car ever built and showed
the world how good Rolls-Royce was at producing an artistic
masterpiece.
