Vehicle Description
A beautiful restoration inside & out, loaded with features, and a
big 425 Super Rocket V8 under the hood - don't take too long
looking at all the details of this 1965 Oldsmobile 98, because
you're not the only one who will recognize that this droptop
classic is one heck of an all-around value.
The 98's original mission was to be Oldsmobile's large luxury
machine, but with more cubic inches under the hood than even a 442
of that year, it cannot help but be a little boastful. That's why
it's great to see an investment in the glossy red paint that really
pops in the sunlight thanks to modern clearcoats - exactly what you
want on a sunshine-friendly droptop. And more than just the paint,
this is a terrific canvas to showcase the artful red because there
has been a solid investment in the body, too. That's why the
full-length trim can run from bumper-to-bumper like an unbroken
line. In fact, speaking of the body, take a moment to appreciate
what this one has to offer. The wraparound chrome bumpers that
cleanly integrate into the extra wide front and rear panels; the
fender skirts that are an instant sign of upper-class; and
sheetmetal that has a sporty kick-up integrated into the rear
fender. This is '60s styling at its best. And more than just
beauty, this one is rare. Oldsmobile only produced about 4,900
examples of the 98 convertible in '65 - and how many do you think
look this good over half a century later?
Beneath the white folding roof is an equally nice white interior.
Premium Oldsmobiles had a great dual luxury and performance spirit
that is represented quite nicely here. The color and pattern on the
seats nicely match the door panels and headliner. But the carpeting
and dash are black so you don't have to worry about dusting off
your shoes before entering. The interior of this car is brand new
and looks wonderful from front to back. This is a full-size coupe,
so there's plenty of room for family and friends. And they'll love
features like the AM/FM stereo and provisions for air conditioning.
But even when you're just out for a solo cruise, this Olds is
fantastic. The fold-down armrest provides individual comfort, and
the front seat is power adjustable. You'll love getting behind the
original steering wheel and looking at the full gauge package,
including the speedometer set in the deep "V". But the features
you'll love the most are the power windows and power convertible
top. This means you never have to leave the driver's seat to go
from enclosed comfort to a wind-in-your-hair experience.
One look under the hood, and you know you'll love taking this one
to car shows. The restoration budget even extends to the engine bay
where all that bold red looks like it's radiating power from under
the hood. And that's not far from the truth, because this has
Oldsmobile's mighty 425 Super Rocket V8. Not only does this motor
look correct, right down to the air topper, but also it has a
1965-correct casting. So we wouldn't be surprised if this was the
original powerplant. But what you really want to know is how this
one glides down the road like a true big block luxury car should.
Features like the three-speed automatic transmission, power
steering, and power brakes give this a true effortless '60s cruiser
feeling.
The sale comes complete with the owner's manual and original
Protect-O-Plate warranty card. Here's a rare Olds droptop with a
high-quality restoration, that you can see in every picture.
Considering this would still be a deal even at twice the price, we
