Vehicle Description
Sold as a stripped-down, go-fast package of the GTX, the Road
Runner was introduced as an option for buyers who wanted a fast car
with no frills, bells or whistles. Introduced in 1968, Plymouth
took the standard GTX and removed all the comfort and luxury
options, leaving a car with a big V8 engine and not much else. 1969
saw a few subtle tweaks and a few new engine options added, but it
still offered the best bang for the buck, with a starting price of
just under $3,000. For the second consecutive year, the formula was
a huge success and the Road Runner was named Motor Trend's coveted
"Car of the Year" for 1969. Having previously graced the cover of
Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine, this superbly restored Plymouth
has been returned to its original factory specifications. The
outside is finished in R4 Performance Red with the V21 optional
performance-hood treatment. The interior features black vinyl
upholstery with the standard bench seat and a 4-speed manual on the
floor. Under the hood sits the original, matching-numbers 383
big-block engine, putting power out to a 3.23 rear end. During the
restoration, many original parts were restored and reused rather
than replaced. Numerous receipts documenting all work performed are
included. The car overall offers an excellent combination of
restoration and originality; it's ready to bring the same
no-frills, go-fast experience it was made for in 1969.
