The 2000 SVT Mustang Cobra R debuted as the fastest factory Mustang
ever produced. Just 300 Cobra R units were made (this is number
144), available only in Performance Red Clearcoat. Besides being
rare, the Cobra R was the most track-focused Mustang since the
original Shelby GT350. The SVT-developed, naturally aspirated
5.4-liter V-8 produces 385 horsepower, good for 0-60 mph in 4.7
seconds, the quarter-mile in 13.2 and a 170-mph top speed. The
power is put to the pavement compliments of the Tremec T-56 6-speed
manual transmission and the innovative independent rear suspension.
As a true, lightweight R-model, it also had track-capable brakes,
able to make a full stop from 60 mph in just 127 feet. Like all SVT
Cobra Rs' before it, the 2000 R came stripped of any stock feature
not needed for track use or that would add excess weight. Recaro
racing seats, Simpson seat belts, side-exit dual exhaust, a front
air splitter and high-mount rear wing hinted at the car's superb
stability and handling capabilities. This example has just 12K
miles on the odometer and is in exceptional condition with the only
demerits being the paint lift and cracking on the hood, an
unfortunate common trait of the curvaceous SVT model. Included with
the car is the original Ford Window Sticker and Owner's Manuals as
well as the Cobra R binder with Ford Special Vehicle Team
Certificate. The B.F. Goodrich G-Force T/A KD performance tires are
the original units, Hendrick Performance will offer replacement
tires if desired by the new owner. If you missed the chance to buy
one of these track-ready superstars in 2000, you might want to jump
on this one, because it is rare these cars come up for sale at all.
