It shows so well because it was always garaged and lovingly cared
for by the same family for 23 years! Mr. Mulch purchased this 300D
from the original owner on May 3, 1982 with a current odometer
reading of 69,412 miles and during his ownership put another 93,462
miles traveling around the country with his wife until his passing
in 2005. During the 23 years of ownership Mr. Mulch kept an auto
record diary that he recorded every detail of the care and use of
this 300D. He averaged around 26 mpg during his entire ownership
and recorded every single time he drove the Mercedes. He also
listed in great detail every time he changed the oil and valve
adjustments religiously along with all other routine service work
and repairs. The third owner was an elderly woman who purchased the
300D from the Mulch estate in 2006. She sparingly drove the 300D on
the occasional Sunday. She only put just a little over 2k miles on
the car during her 10 years of ownership and always stored it in a
garage. This 300D is a prime example of a classic benefiting from
well cared for long-term ownership and is a genuine time capsule
from the 1970s. In 1975, Mercedes-Benz big diesel news came in
however, when Mercedes grafted another cylinder to the new diesel
four to create a 3.0-liter straight five diesel making 77
horsepower, at the time, the most power available in a diesel
passenger car. Finished in its correct shade of Colorado Beige
(code 470), the paint job is beautiful and presents itself
extremely well with a nice shine. Front bumper has a good fit, with
rubber over riders, the rear bumper (with the same over riders) has
an excellent fit and finish that shows well with only minor
imperfections. All trim pieces are present and have a brilliant
finish. The weather stripping is still very pliable with no
shrinkage or drying and the front and rear windshield seals are in
great shape. The U.S. spec headlights, bumper mounted driving
lights and taillights are in very condition with no hazing or
cracks. Every light on the car works as it should Inside, the rich
Saddle tan (code 104) MB-Tex vinyl seats all look great with no
major signs of wear visible. Excellent matching carpet throughout
the interior. Overall the genuine wood trim looks great. There is
no cracking or delamination of the wood. The door panels and
dashboard are matched perfectly with the exterior of the car and
look fantastic. The headliner mirrors the rest of the cabin and
completes the theme. The original steering wheel in great
condition, air conditioning, heater, power windows, power locks,
period correct Yamaha AM/FM cassette player and even an early
version of aftermarket cruise control. As known with these
W114/W115 Mercedes models blower motors can be very pricey to
repair and this 300D s blower motor has been tested and operates as
originally designed. As expected the Air Conditioning blows hard
and cold. This nicely presented Mercedes is equipped with the Bosch
injected 3.0L inline 5-cylinder diesel engine, 4-speed automatic
transmission and independent suspension. The drivers assist
features include power steering, power brakes and cruise control.
