Vehicle Description
Who would not love motoring down the road led by The Spirit of
Ecstasy, Rolls-Royces classically designed hood ornament Or, as the
British would say, bonnet ornament. Instantly recognizable
virtually everywhere around the world, The Spirit is reason enough
to add this rare ride to your stable. The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow
is a luxury car that was produced in the United Kingdom in various
forms from 1965 to 1980. It was the first Rolls-Royce to use
unitary body and chassis construction. The Silver Shadow achieved
the largest production volume of any Rolls-Royce. In 1976, the
Shadow sold for about US$32,000. In 2017 dollars, the price would
be approximately $135,000, about the same price as a very high-end
Audi or Mercedes. Due to the narrow and crowded nature of many
British roads, the Shadow was 3 12 inches narrower and 7 inches
shorter than the Silver Cloud it replaced, but managed to offer
increased passenger and luggage space. Aside from a more modern
appearance and construction, the Silver Shadow introduced many new
features such as disc brakes and independent rear suspension. This
lovely Shadow is smoothly motivated by a 189 HP, 6.7 L (378 cubic
inch) Rolls Royce V8 delivering power to the rear axle via a
General Motors Turbo Hydra-Matic three-speed automatic
transmission. The GM transmission was a standard Silver Cloud
feature, not an aftermarket conversion. The genuine leather and
wood interior of this vehicle is in very good condition and this
Rolls runs and drives very nicely, providing occupants a smooth,
comfortable driving experience. And, talk about rarity! Although
determining how many Rolls were manufactured in a particular year
is a tricky business, about 2700 Silver Shadows of all models were
produced in 1976. This is a long wheelbase model which only adds to
its rarity. This is your opportunity to join the elite few led by
the Spirit of Ecstasy, drawing many admiring glances as they
comfortably cruise the highway and byways of the world.
