Vehicle Description
By 1976, all of the Big Displacement engines had disappeared from
the option list of the Big Detroit manufacturers with the exception
of Pontiac. Somehow they managed to put another notch in Pontiac
History with an honest to goodness true 455ci V8. For the small
investment of $125 dollars, you would receive a 455ci Torque
Monster, a Borg Warner 4spd manual close ratio gear box, a
performance rear axle ratio, specifically tuned exhaust system and
distinctive 455 designations on both sides of the shaker hood
scoop. Only slightly over 15% of the lucky buyers checked the L75
option code and made their Trans AM an instant collectible. Little
did they know that this would be the last year of production for
this legendary Engine. Think about those words. Last Year for a
Large 455ci engine in a Pontiac Performance Car! That makes this a
Must Have in any well rounded collection. This Trans AM has a low
51,085 miles on it. It was ordered with a nod to performance and
options were kept to a minimum. AC and a Center Console as well as
the Hood Bird were the only real luxuries added to the invoice.
This resulted in a Trans AM priced a just a little over $6,000. A
few of the knowledgeable owners knew that with minor modifications,
you could really wake up these engines. All you had to do was
replace the heads with a set containing larger valves and smaller
combustion chambers, a performance cam and tune the car to take
advantage of those upgrades. This TA has had those upgrades done to
it and feels more like an early 70's TA than a 1976. Partial list
of Upgrade - 76 455 bored .040 over - 1975 6X cylinder heads,
Bigger exhaust valves, 95cc's combustion chambers - Nunzi's #2042
RA IV grind camshaft - Recurved Distributor - 1970 Pontiac factory
non EGR 4bbl intake - A Carburetor reworked by Cliff Ruggles
(Cliff's Q Jets) - 1977 vintage Hooker Super Comp Headers - Pypes
2.5 dual exhaust system with X pipe - 73 TA rear axle " 2:73 gears
This Trans AM moves and runs like a top. We have rebuilt the
Transmission, replacing all worn parts and reassembled to spec. It
shifts smoothly and accurately through the gears. It is a real
pleasure to drive. The paint and decals are driver quality showing
some age. Purchase and drive as is or hire our Professional staff
to update the finish to show quality. That is the only real
consideration you might do to improve this legendary collectible.
