Vehicle Description
Stk. 2287 1979 Jeep CJ-5 (PROJECT)
In its prime, there was nothing that could match the prowess of a
CJ-5 in the backcountry - and this 1979 CJ-5 wants to continue the
journey. It has had a lot of modifications, but must still be
considered a 'work-in-progress'. Starting with a solid frame, the
builder converted the body components to fiberglass. Front cowling,
quarter panels and floorboards are all one-piece. The hood and
front fenders form the front clip and there is a sturdy steel front
'Bull Bar". A two-point padded roll bar is attached to the inside
rear fenders. This Jeep is powered by an AMC 304ci V8 with Holley
carburation and tube headers that exit to side exhaust. The 3-speed
manual transmission directs power to what is believed to be a Dana
20 transfer case with manual Superwinch front hubs. At the moment,
there is a transmission issue with third gear. It may need some
work, but it is certainly not the most complicated gearbox around.
The chassis is equipped with power steering and disc/drum brakes.
Most of the suspension components have been modified and off-road
tires are mounted on nice machined 15" Dick Cepek rims. The
interior is all business - typical off-road. There is an AutoMeter
gauge package. All of the seats have been recently reupholstered in
black vinyl and are in very good shape. The canvas
top/doors/windows are also in good condition. This CJ-5 is ready
for a new owner that will finish the project and then enjoy this
classic piece of Jeep lore on the road or in the back woods. Call
