Vehicle Description
This is a fun vehicle guaranteed to bring a smile to anyone who
sees it on the road. Called a "bubble car," the most entertaining
aspect is trying to get in or out with the entire door swinging out
and the steering wheel moving to the side.
BMW bought the Isetta from the original Italian manufacturer to
have a low priced model while trying to recover financially from
the war. This proved a brilliant move and some 200,000 Isettas were
built over an 8-year period.
This 1960 model is powered by a 582 cc two cylinder BMW engine with
19.5 HP so performance might be called "zippy" and it is still fuel
efficient!
This car has been stored in the Champlain Valley transportation
museum for the last 8 years. The brakes have been rebuilt recently
and the fuel system has been flushed.
Painted in a two tone-blue and white color scheme this car has a
slide back cloth top so can be considered a convertible.
