Vehicle Description
Ford only made 1447 T-Bird Sports Roadsters back in 1962 and this
is one of them! In fact, this is one of the first 558, "early
production" T-Bird Roadsters that was built on September 27th,
1961. The first 558 cars were special because they were delivered
to the dealerships first as display vehicles for the showroom only.
The Bird was delivered to Region 14 in Pittsburg. It spent some of
its early life there before coming to Indiana where it has spent
most of its life.
The car has always been garaged kept and well maintained. The
current and third owner performed a complete "body on" restoration
back in 2013. This T-Bird is essentially a new car. The numbers
matching 390 cu. in, 300 hp engine was professionally rebuilt to
factory specs. The heads were fit with all new guides and seals to
accept today's unleaded fuel. The transmission and rear end were
completed removed, inspected and serviced with new parts if needed.
Mechanically, this car is like new.
Brakes, brake lines, fuel lines, gas tank, sending unit, starter,
generator, suspension, dual exhaust, tires....it's all new. Even
the power convertible top pump and fluid has been replaced with
new. The convertible top is in good condition but the owner is
replacing it with a new one! The original body panels are straight
and rust free. The paint, glass, chrome and trim are all like new.
The Rangoon Red base coat clear coat paint has great clarity and
shine. The interior is all new except for the dash pad. The
instrument panel has been cleaned and all gauges and lights work as
they should except for the clock. The Kelsey Hayes wire wheels
(including the spare) are the true and original 48 spoke wheels
with the correct stampings. The undercarriage is clean and solid
showing only the usual road wear and dust.
This T-Bird came with Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Seats and
of course the Tilt-Away Steering column. It runs and drives like
new with no issues! All heater controls, wipers and horn all work
as they should. It's beautiful!
