Vehicle Description
1963 Chevrolet Nova 400 For Sale in Kings Park, New York 11754
Turn heads wherever you go in this beautiful classic Chevy Nova
400. Car has been in my family since 1966 when we bought it from a
neighbor. Original bill of sale will accompany the car when sold.
The car had about 30K when we bought it. It now has an actual 92K
on the odometer. This car has always been well maintained as it has
always been garaged and never driven in harsh weather. It has
always been adult driven and is unmolested in any way. Any work was
done properly. It had not been out overnight almost ever, and is
detailed using only a soft damp towel. The original GM lacquer
lasted around 40 years. Car was repainted only once with catalyzed
Urethane paint in the original Tuxedo black color, any minor rust
issues were taken care of at this time also.
It still has the original wiper blade hardware and all the glass is
original and good. The Original AM radio still works. It is
currently insured and has been for many years by Grundy Worldwide
with an agreed upon value of 25,500. It is registered in New York
with vintage year 1963 plates. (if sold to a NY. resident I'll
include the plates) I favor In-line Six cylinder engines and since
most swaps are to a small block V8 I decided to be different and
used a six instead.
The following work was done by Werner engineering in my home town.
Block was baked and magnafluxed for cracks, align bored and bored
"30 over" with a torque plate. Block deck was milled for trueness.
The seller decided to use the 194 head because it has smaller
combustion chambers and when installed on the "253" it effectively
rated the compression ratio. The seller used only premium fuel and
the gas mileage is surprisingly good when driven properly. The
seller removed the 194 six and 2 speed power glide and replaced the
motto with a seasoned 250 six. The engine received all new
internals including a performance camshaft, all new valve gear, 3
angle valve job and hardened exhaust seats. Was balanced and
blueprinted and now has about 10K miles running time. It is broken
in properly and is now at a "sweet spot" performance wise. It also
has a Clifford Ram intake manifold with a manual choke Edelbrock 4
bbl carb and Clifford headers going into "true" dual exhausts with
Turbo mufflers. It sounds sweet and is often mentioned as sounding
like a Z8. The distributor is a GM HEI with a hotter coil and
performance curve getting the full 12 volts. Battery is a
heavy-duty model. Transmission is a Turbo 350 with a manual valve
body operated with a B-M Silver floor shifter allowing fully
automatic shifting or "manual gear changes". Torque converter was
selected for best overall performance. The rear mono leaf springs
were changed to heavy duty leaf springs. All shocks are heavy duty
type and the wheels were changed to 14 inch with radial tires. This
car goes straight down the road with no pull or drift and is
unusually tight and rattle free especially for a convertible. The
front end was all redone and has an anti-sway bar and heavy-duty
coil springs and shocks. The entire braking system was redone with
all new steel lines hoses, hardware, new front drums wheel
cylinders and dual chamber master for added safety. The system is
set up for and uses DOT 5 silicone brake fluid which doesn't
attract moisture and is practical for an older car. Radiator is
fairly new and was charged to accept the 350 trans cooling lines.
Car runs cool at all times especially since it has a cowl induction
fiberglass hood. A new convertible top, rear window and top rubber
moldings were installed recently and the top is operated with a
hydro-electric set-up. The top "boot" is in mint condition.
The new owner will receive a trunk full of "goodies including car
covers for top down or top up protection, many new or goof extra
parts gathered over the years at swap meets, etc. The 4 original 13
inch full wheel discs, original glove box owner's manual, proper GM
shop manuals for 1962 and 63, an assembly manual with parts numbers
and illustrations and much more. This car was featured in an
article in the National Nostalgic Nova magazine some years ago.
It gets a lot of attention at Car shows since it is really unique
and I think "cool". This Chevrolet Nova 400 is a must see and
drive! Priced to sell!
