The Sprint Speciale was introduced in 1957 and directly descended from Carrozzeria Bertone Aerodynamica Technica (BAT) design studies of the mid-1950s. The Sprint Speciale’s 1,300-cc, all-alloy, four-cylinder engine was fitted with a pair of Weber side-draught carburetors, and it could produce a healthy 116 horsepower. They were built on a slightly shorter wheelbase as the SS was small, lightweight, compact, aerodynamically efficient and very powerful for its size. The Sprint Speciale also added some racing touches seen on Ferrari’s of the time such as the plastic air deflector mounted ahead of the windscreen. Less than 1,500 examples were produced in total.
From the elegantly trimmed interior, lively performance and exquisite Bertone design, these Alfa Sprint Speciales have become one of the most collectible and desirable post-war Alfa Romeos in the market today. They are fun to drive and make beautiful additions to any garage or collection and are eligible for some of the finest and most exclusive vintage road tours around the world.
According to the production register this Sprint Speciale was produced on January 14, 1961 and delivered to the USA on July 18th, 1961. Having gone through and extensive rotisserie restoration, the car sits today in magnificent condition. While originally Bianco gardenia, we think the Holland Blue suits the lines of the Alfa much better. This Alfa has recently been serviced from lack of use including brakes, new starter, cooling and fuel systems.
This Sprint Speciale comes with a copy of its original Certificato Di Origine and a letter from the curator of the production register held in the Centro Documentazione Alfa Romeo.
