Vehicle Description
Magnificently restored 1960 Porsche 356 B Roadster, produced in
December of 1960 is finished in its original color combination of
Aetna blue with red interior. This roadster is believed to have
been sold new in Europe, however it has been in California for the
past 30 years. It features sharp cosmetics plus is a spectacular
example to drive. It retained just one California owner for
approximately 25 years, before being acquired by the highly
regarded 356 restoration expert Ted Blake. In need of refreshing,
Mr. Blake set about restoring the car to his famously high
standards.
During the rebuild, the generator stand (which displays the engine
number) was transferred to a 356C case which has a superior oiling
system. The original matching case is included with the car. The C
case was built up to 1720cc and fitted with SC (counter balanced)
crankshaft, Super 90 heads, SC rods, 9.25:1 compression ration
J&E pistons, and 40mm intake valves. The original Zenith carbs
were employed (rebuilt of course), various sheet metal powder
coated, and the generator and fuel pump rebuilt. A new pressure
plate, throwout bearing, and clutch were also fitted. The
transmission is a two mount type made in December of 1960 which
indicates the only difference of significance between the 1960 and
1961 model year 356. The transmission was rebuilt with new
bearings, new synchromesh, and a quarter inch side stiffener to
prevent the axle boot from leaking. The front suspension was
rebuilt in its entirety including new Boge shocks and steering
damper. Furthermore, the steering box was also rebuilt, along with
new wheel cylinders, brake lines, and dual master cylinder (which
is hidden from above making it look stock). A new German wiring
harness was fitted and new LED lights fitted into the original tail
light housings. Palo Alto Speedometer rebuilt all the gauges. The
windscreen was replaced, and a full new top and interior from Autos
International was fitted. The car has covered approximately 2,000
miles since its restoration.
The quality of the restoration is well noticed and makes an
excellent cosmetic impression. The body is straight with excellent
fit and gaps. The driver's door fits and operates superbly. The
paintwork was applied to high standards with nearly no issues. The
paint trailing edge of the passenger's door was polished through,
and there are a few swirls about the car, but it is truly excellent
overall. The chrome is also excellent, as are the glass, lights,
and lenses. The car is fitted with new Michelin XZX tires all round
which makes the wheels look fresh in appearance. The wheels are
date code matching and the car wears a 1986-only "sunset" license
plate, indicating that the car has been in California for at least
29 years.
The interior is correctly restored to exceptionally high standards.
The upholstery workmanship is excellent, including the dashboard,
door panels, and the seats. Additionally, the floors are correct
rubber and the carpets are the correct square weave material. The
dash and instruments were also restored. This roadster is equipped
with a Wooden Steering Wheel which gives off a true classical
flavor.
The engine compartment was correctly restored to high standards as
well. Aside from some light soiling, it is essentially spotless.
All the correct decals and air filters are correct and in place.
The trunk was also restored to immaculate standards with a correct
semi gloss finish on the fuel tank, new rubber mat, and restored
October 1960 date coded spare with matching new Michelin XZX tire.
The fuel tank in place is dated November 1960. A new leather strap
to retain the spare was also fitted.
This is an excellent opportunity to acquire an incredible 356
Roadster that was restored by one of the best in the business.

matching numbers engine case as well as its Certificate of
