Vehicle Description
Real code 138 SS, matching-numbers L35 396/325 and 4-speed manual
transmission. Beautiful two year old restoration of a very
straight, clean, rust-free California car. Great color, ready to
enjoy! Matching numbers L35 396 cubic inch V8 with 325 horsepower,
a fantastic color combination that'll stand out among all the red,
black and yellow Chevelle's out there, and a 4-speed gearbox that's
not only fun to throw, but absolutely bulletproof. This beauty
appears to retain all its original sheet metal, floors and quarters
included, and when it was restored a two years ago, they spent the
time and effort to make it look right. The bumpers are in great
condition with a shine that requires sunglasses. The stainless trim
around the windows has been buffed to a high shine that matches the
chrome. All new correct 'Super Sport' emblems, as well as the 'SS
396' badge on the rear end, complete the high performance look. The
blue "rare" bench seat interior is beautifully done, with correct
seat covers, new carpets, and lots of shiny trim. The dashboard
repeated Chevy's then-current theme, a wide band of brushed
stainless with the primary gauges in a slot ahead of the driver,
and from the factory, this one only covered the basics of speed,
time and fuel level. There is one aftermarket dial under the dash
monitoring temperature. It retains the correct working AM radio.
That long chrome shifter manages a Muncie 4-speed manual gearbox.
New carpets, a nice-fitting headliner, and a blemish-free dash pad
all make it feel plush, not basic. The back seat is completely
unused and the trunk is correctly outfitted with spatter paint, a
reproduction mat, and a full-sized spare with jack etc. This car is
powered by its original, numbers-matching L35 that was rated at 325
horsepower, which is still a pretty stout piece. It was rebuilt to
stock specs, and that means torque lots of effortless, mountainous
torque! It starts easily, idles well, and has great street manners,
which comes thanks to a lot of tuning and tweaking after it was all
together. It's also nicely dressed with correct Chevy Orange paint,
chrome valve covers, correct air cleaner with decals. Power
steering and power brakes are part of the package, making this a
car that's very user-friendly and a lot of fun to drive.
Underneath, it's clean and straight, with no signs of rust or
previous rust repairs. The floors are super clean, the Muncie
4-speed was rebuilt and tucked back into place, and the original
cast iron exhaust manifolds feed a fresh Flowmaster dual exhaust
system that sounds awesome. Out back, there's a new gas tank and
the factory rear end. It's also wearing 18-inch Retro chrome wheels
that measure 235/40ZR18 in front and 275/35ZR18 in the rear. These
are popular cars and it's easy to see why. This one gets big points
for its matching-numbers engine, 4-speed transmission, and totally
sorted road manners.
