For Sale: 1975 Chevrolet Vega in Kentwood, Michigan

Vehicle Description

The Cosworth Vega began its origins in the racing division of Cosworth Engineering as Chevrolet, in the early 70's sent engineers to England in a quest for cylinder head technology to produce more power in for the Vega. In development, racing engine built on the Vega Aluminum block produced a reported 260 hp and powered Chevron and Lola race cars to wins in the 2 liter class in their debuts. After a few years of hurdles to over come, and project freezes, the Cosworth Vega was finally ready for the American Public in the model year 1975. All were painted in black with gold graphics, and all came with the famed Z09 engine, with was very similar to the engine that powered victories in IMSA and Trans Am 2.0 liter classes, although be it detuned and missing the dry sump system. Chevrolet built just 2061 Cosworth Vegas in 1975, A ll were finished in black acrylic lacquer with gold trim and "Cosworth twin cam" lettering and hood bulge and body sides, wheel openings and rear cove. Custom perforated vinyl interiors were standard, and most had black interiors. All Cosworths had a gold plated engine-turned dash bezel, gold-plated dash plaque with build sequence number, 8,000 RPM tachometer, and Cosworth Twin-Cam Vega steering wheel emblem.
The example offered here is 1101 of the 2061 examples built. Options include: Adjustable seat backs, tinted glass, Z09 decals, sport mirrors, twin cam engine, 4 speed manual transmission, etc. It is finished in its signature black and gold paint and graphic scheme and presents itself very nicely. Car and Driver magazine is quoted in saying after testing a prototype in 1973: "Cosworth Vega 16 valve: More than an engine. A taut-muscled GT coupe to devastate the smugness of BMW 2002 Tii's and 5-speed Alfa GTV's. ...each one built away from the tumult of the assembly line to precision tolerances, as a show of technical force by Chevrolet. All of them will be collector's items. How true was this statement 42 years ago. Cosworth Vega's are rare, unique, and a blast to drive; for these reasons, they are sought after and have international appeal. Documentation includes original build sheet, Service and Owners Manual supplement, and original dash plaque.
