Vehicle Description
Considering the illustrious reputation of the BMW, it's easily
assumed that the German manufacturer gained and kept their foothold
in the United States by having always sent over only the best
examples of their work. But that's not the case. This rare 1983 BMW
635CSI presents a chance to own the vastly superior European
version of the timeless 6-series. Having received the best of care,
as well as a whole assortment of fresh parts, it's more than ready
to provide the promise of Bavarian classic motoring coolness as you
embark on its next chapter of driving adventures.
With its low profile and wide stance, this 635 looks refined, but
plenty capable. Its dolphin gray paint complements its conformation
and is in fine form, shining from every angle. It cuts a great
appearance and the bumpers both front and back remain unblemished
and fresh, as does the body trim throughout. As you look from the
front, you can see the slotted appearance of the air dam - a
feature that differentiates it from its U.S.-bound counterparts. A
new set of hood shocks have been installed and the hood raises and
lowers with a "like new" smoothness. The doors and trunk all sit
flush, have uniform gaps and open and close with no issues at all.
Even the smaller details have been looked after, as the front
grille retains its original deep black hue, and the signature BMW
propellers in both front and rear stand out from the gray that
surrounds them. Even that low-slung, slotted air dam in front bears
no discernible scuffs or rock chips.
Open the door to have a look inside and one of the first things
you're likely to notice are the pristine BMW Recaro seats up front.
Taking the place of the more commonly encountered Sport Seats,
they're just one of the many features found in this black leather
interior. Throughout, you'll see a very lightly used appearance
that belies this car's nearly 35 years in service, the combined
result of excellent care with its unusually low 120,000 actual
miles. Among some of the custom touches that have been added are
the M Series steering wheel, a custom visor that also houses a
built-in Homelink garage door opener and a set of near new velour
floor mats. The Blauplunkt AM/FM/CD system situated front and
center not only has a period-correct appearance, but also blue
tooth compatibility, allowing you to stream your music library
while enjoying the driving experience this special car will
provide. With a steering column that not only tilts, but
telescopes, you can find that perfect driving position. Power
windows and an electric sunroof in perfect operating condition are
a real plus.
Most car enthusiasts know that even to this day there continue to
be differences in power output between import models remaining home
vs. those shipped to the States, but when it came to the 6 series,
that disparity was fairly marked, with the European version 3.2
liter engine housed in this car retaining a lopsided edge - about
40hp worth!! Makes you glad it made the trip over! Mated to a close
ratio 5 speed manual transmission also only found in the European
version, it's part of what goes into making this 635 a true
driver's car. A good deal of effort has been made to insure it
remains that way, as both the 4 wheel anti-lock disc brake system
and cooling system have been replaced, as have the battery, fuel
pump and engine hoses. For continued reliability, the fuel
injectors were removed and cleaned and a set of new, upgraded upper
control arms were installed. The set of rare AC Schnitzer 16"
wheels are in impeccable condition and complete the look of this
fine vehicle.
