Vehicle Description
When the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was released to the public in
October 1965, the development departments were showing the result
of work carried out over a period of some ten years. The new series
was characterised by surprisingly modern features and, with their
development, Rolls-Royce broke new ground and away from many sacred
design principles. The new models were technically striking in
three ways; a monocoque chassis was used, all wheels were sprung
independently and four-wheel disc brakes now ensured stopping power
of the kind expected in a modern car. Under the bonnet, the V8
engine which had been introduced in the Silver Cloud series was
employed. In February 1977, the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II was
introduced. Outwardly, the models were identifiable by bumpers with
rubber inserts and edges made from polyurethane. The Silver Shadow
Long Wheelbase was renamed the Silver Wraith in 1976 and a total of
2,135 examples were manufactured. In addition to the additional
legroom, the Silver Wraith was identifiable by a smaller rear
window, Everflex roof and different wheel covers. Originally
registered on 25th June 1980, this Silver Wraith was purchased by
the enthusiastic car collecting vendor in 2015. He then set about
having a bare metal re-spray in Peacock blue and having the
interior restored by Frank Dale. This included re-trimming the
seats together with the door cards and fitting new carpets. In
addition to this, the wood was professionally restored and a new
Everflex roof fitted. Although the current odometer reads 31,297
miles, this has been replaced and the total mileage JPM 748V has
covered is 79,812. Supplied with a V5C registration document, we
are advised by the vendor she will have a fresh MoT prior to
auction. A history folder also accompanies this rare and highly
desirable Rolls-Royce. This is a magnificent example and one that
is sure to create interest given the recent expenditure and
realistic estimate. For sale by auction on Saturday 23 September
2017 with Historics at Brooklands, Brooklands Motor Racing Circuit,
